Organizations Filed Purposes: TO MAKE THE MOST OF LIFE THROUGH THE GIFT OF ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION AND TO CHALLENGE OURSELVES... [CONTINUED] ...AND OTHERS EVERYDAY TO REALIZE ARIZONA'S POTENTIAL TO SAVE AND IMPROVE LIVES.

ORGAN RECOVERY & PLACEMENT SERVICES: DONOR NETWORK OF ARIZONA MAXIMIZED THE AVAILABILITY OF HIGH QUALITY ORGANS AND TISSUES FOR TRANSPLANT AND RESEARCH BY PROVIDING SERVICES TO DONORS, RECIPIENTS, DONOR FAMILIES, DONOR HOSPITALS, AND TRANSPLANT HOSPITALS. DNA HAD ANOTHER RECORD YEAR FOR SAVING LIVES IN 2018. DNA FACILITATED THE DONATION AND RECOVERY OF 978 ORGANS OF WHICH 840 WERE TRANSPLANTED. THESE ORGANS WERE RECOVERED FROM 286 ORGAN DONORS. 417 PEOPLE RECEIVED TRANSPLANTABLE KIDNEYS, 8 PEOPLE RECEIVED KIDNEYS EN BLOC, 106 PEOPLE RECEIVED TRANSPLANTABLE HEARTS, 186 PEOPLE RECEIVED TRANSPLANTABLE LIVERS, 12 PEOPLE RECEIVED TRANSPLANTABLE LIVER SEGMENTS, 31 PEOPLE RECEIVED TRANSPLANTABLE PANCREATA, 5 PEOPLE RECEIVED TRANSPLANTABLE LUNGS, 72 PEOPLE RECEIVED TRANSPLANTABLE LUNGS EN BLOC, AND 2 PEOPLE RECEIVED TRANSPLANTABLE INTESTINES. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION FACILITATED THE IMPORTATION OF 510 TRANSPLANTABLE ORGANS FROM OTHER GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS.

TISSUE & OCULAR RECOVERY & PLACEMENT SERVICES: THE ORGANIZATION ALSO FACILITATED THE DONATION AND RECOVERY OF VARIOUS TISSUES FOR TRANSPLANT PURPOSES.IN 2018, A RECORD-SETTING 1416 PEOPLE DONATED BONE, CARDIOVASCULAR, OR SKIN TISSUE. OF THESE, A RECORD 985 PEOPLE DONATED BONE FOR ORTHOPEDIC PURPOSES, AND A 16% INCREASE FROM THE PRIOR YEAR. AS THE NUMBER ONE RECOVERY AGENCY FOR OUR HEART VALVE RECOVERY PARTNER, WE FACILITATED THE DONATION OF 242 HEART VALVES, MOST FREQUENTLY TRANSPLANTED IN PEDIATRIC PATIENTS. IN ADDITION, 335 SAPHENOUS VEINS WERE DONATED. THE GENEROSITY OF 1251 PEOPLE RESULTED IN DONATED SKIN FOR BURN VICTIMS AND RESTORATIVE PROCEDURES. THE 1416 DONORS ALSO DONATED OTHER CARDIOVASCULAR AND ORTHOPEDIC TISSUES.IN ADDITION, 667 PEOPLE DONATED CORNEAS THAT RESULTED IN 930 CORNEAL TRANSPLANTS, OF WHICH 123 OF THESE WERE PROVIDED GRATIS FOR THOSE WHO COULD NOT AFFORD A TRANSPLANT OTHERWISE. THESE DONORS ALSO DONATED SCLERA FOR TRANSPLANTATION PURPOSES.

DONOR PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT & EDUCATION:THE HOSPITAL DONOR PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAXIMIZING THE TOTAL NUMBER OF DONORS RECOVERED FOR TRANSPLANT IN ARIZONA THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF INDIVIDUALIZED DONOR PROGRAMS BASED ON COMPREHENSIVE HOSPITAL ASSESSMENT, ANALYSIS OF THE DONOR POTENTIAL IN ARIZONA, THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ONGOING QUALITY PROCESS IMPROVEMENT AND INITIATION AND FOSTERING OF EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN THE PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY.CURRENTLY THIS DEPARTMENT HAS 16 FULL-TIME COORDINATORS/ASSOCIATES, A MANAGER AND ONE DIRECTOR WHO, IN ADDITION TO THE VICE PRESIDENT, PROVIDE EDUCATION AND SERVICES TO OVER 120 HOSPITALS AS WELL AS HOSPICES AND OTHER DONATION REFERRAL ORGANIZATIONS THROUGHOUT ARIZONA. IN ADDITION THE DEPARTMENT HAS A MANAGER AND THREE STAFF IN DATA INTELLIGENCE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MEDICAL RECORD REVIEW AND OTHER PROCESS MONITORS AND ANALYTICS FOR DONATION SYSTEMS IN THE ORGANIZATION AND THROUGHOUT DONOR NETWORK OF ARIZONA. THE DEPARTMENT ALSO HAS A DONATION PROGRAM EDUCATOR WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL TRAINING. DONOR NETWORK OF ARIZONA (DNA) CONTINUES TO UTILIZE THE BEST PRACTICES AS DEFINED BY THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES' BREAKTHROUGH COLLABORATIVES FOR ORGAN DONATION AND TRANSPLANTATION. THIS INCLUDES ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN REGIONAL AND NATIONAL IMPROVEMENT EFFORTS. THESE EFFORTS CONTINUE TO HELP US MAXIMIZE CONVERSION RATES, DONORS AND THE NUMBER OF ORGANS TRANSPLANTED PER DONOR IN ARIZONA. IN ADDITION TO ONGOING EDUCATION IN ARIZONA HOSPITALS AND HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS, DNA HOLDS AN ANNUAL ALL-HOSPITAL SYMPOSIUM.THE HOSPITAL DONOR PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT CONDUCTS 400 - 600 PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION OFFERINGS EACH YEAR AND HAS PROVIDED DESIGNATED REQUESTOR TRAINING TO OVER 4,000 HEALTHCARE WORKERS THROUGHOUT THE STATE. DNA IS AN APPROVED PROVIDER OF CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS THROUGH THE ARIZONA NURSES ASSOCIATION. IN ADDITION, THE HOSPITAL DONOR PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT STAFF MEMBERS COORDINATE SPECIAL EDUCATION EVENTS AND PROJECTS AND DEVELOPS AND MAINTAIN EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS.PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT :THE FOCUS OF OUR PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT IS TO INCREASE ORGAN AND TISSUE DONOR REGISTRATION IN ARIZONA BY CREATING AND EXPANDING PUBLIC OUTREACH PROGRAMS, DISTRIBUTING INFORMATION, AND DEVELOPING AND EXPANDING COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS.SOME KEY PUBLIC EDUCATION HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:-MORE THAN 3.5 MILLION PEOPLE HAVE REGISTERED THEIR DECISION TO BE A DONOR ON THE DONATELIFEAZ REGISTRY. MORE THAN 290,000 JOINED THE REGISTRY IN 2018.-DNA CONTINUED ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION (ADOT MVD); INCLUDING MVD AMBASSADORS, MVD RECOGNITION, PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS AT ALL OFFICES, NEWSLETTER ARTICLES, WEB PROMOTION, AND MORE. -DNA LED SCHOOL CHALLENGES AT THE COLLEGIATE LEVELS AND ASSISTED WITH HIGH SCHOOL CHALLENGES, ENCOURAGING YOUTH IN ARIZONA TO REGISTER AS DONORS. OVER 25 HIGH SCHOOLS ACROSS ARIZONA PARTICIPATED IN 2018.-VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED OVER 1,936 HOURS OF THEIR TIME PROMOTING DONATION AT MORE THAN 148 COMMUNITY EVENTS IN 2018.-IMPLEMENTED VOLUNTEER WORKSHOPS TO PROVIDE CONTINUED EDUCATION. ADDED THE CAPABILITY FOR NEW VOLUNTEERS TO BEGIN THEIR TRAINING THROUGH AN ONLINE MODULE. CONTINUED ANNUAL VOLUNTEER COMPETENCIES TO DEFINE A SET OF STANDARDS FOR VOLUNTEER KNOWLEDGE AND ENSURE ACCURATE INFORMATION IS BEING COMMUNICATED BY VOLUNTEERS TO POTENTIAL REGISTRANTS. LAUNCHED VOLUNTEER MENTOR PROGRAM TO PAIR NEW VOLUNTEERS WITH A SEASONED VOLUNTEER TO ANSWER QUESTIONS AND GIVE TIPS.-DONATE LIFE ARIZONA ALSO INCREASED OUR PRESENCE ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND ENDED 2018 WITH MORE THAN 11,840 LIKES ON OUR DONATE LIFE FACEBOOK PAGE, MORE THAN 1,240 LIKES ON OUR DONE VIDA FACEBOOK PAGE, MORE THAN 2,680 FOLLOWERS ON TWITTER, MORE THAN 1,400 FOLLOWERS ON INSTAGRAM, MORE THAN 200 FOLLOWERS ON OUR PINTEREST, AND OVER 227,120 VIEWS ON YOUTUBE.-DNA LAUNCHED THE DONATION NATION IN LATE 2018, A SOCIAL MEDIA AMBASSADOR PROGRAM GEARED TOWARD HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS. MEMBERS POST ON THEIR OWN SOCIAL MEDIA ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF DONATION AND ENCOURAGE THEIR PEERS, FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO REGISTER. THERE ARE CURRENTLY TWO MEMBERS.-LAUNCHED THE MULTICULTURAL COMMITTEE, COMPRISED OF MEMBERS FROM DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES IN ARIZONA. COMMITTEE MEMBERS PROVIDED INPUT ON DONATION IN THEIR COMMUNITY AND HELPED PROMOTE ECHO (EVERY COMMUNITY HAS OPPORTUNITIES.)-CONTINUED TO USE MULTIPLE PORTALS TO ALLOW ARIZONANS TO REGISTER; INCLUDING WEBSITE, MVD, SWIPE TO DONATE LIFE, FORMS AND MAIL.-IMPLEMENTED DRIVER'S EDUCATION VIDEO FOR MVD DRIVER'S ED CLASSES. WORKED WITH NON-MVD DRIVING SERVICES TO USE DONATION VIDEO/BROCHURE.-PARTNERED WITH BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF ARIZONA TO INCREASE REGISTRATION EFFORTS. BCBSAZ HELD REGISTRATION TABLES, PRESENTED TO THEIR STAFF, PITCHED MEDIA, SHARED ON SOCIAL MEDIA, SPONSORED DNA EVENTS, AND INTRODUCED SEVERAL OTHER COMMUNITY PARTNERS. ONE EXCITING OUTCOME FROM THIS RELATIONSHIP WAS THE ADS DISPLAYED ON PHOENIX FIRETRUCKS.-LAUNCHED THE 38 SECOND ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN TO PROMOTE DONATION REGISTRATION IN COLLABORATION WITH OUR ADVERTISING AGENCY, ZION AND ZION.-PLACED OVER 100 MEDIA STORIES ENCOURAGING ARIZONANS TO REGISTER TO DONATE, APPEALING TO BOTH ENGLISH-SPEAKING AND SPANISH-SPEAKING AUDIENCES. -CONTINUED THE INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE TO PLAN AND CREATE COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES AND TACTICS TO IMPROVE QUALITY AND DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION TO AND AMONG DNA STAFF. -PARTICIPATED AND/OR COORDINATED SIGNATURE EVENTS PROMOTING DONATION; SUCH AS THE FIESTA BOWL PARADE, DONATE LIFE DAY AT THE CAPITOL, DONATE LIFE DAY WITH THE DIAMONDBACKS ECHO, PEDIATRIC DONATION SYMPOSIUM AND THE DONATION CHAMPIONS AWARDS CELEBRATION.-PARTNERED WITH DONOR FAMILY SERVICES TO HOST THE SECOND ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF LIFE, AN EVENT TO GATHER AND HONOR ARIZONA DONOR FAMILIES.-CONTINUED TO PROMOTE THE WEBSITE, LIVEONAZ.ORG, AS A HOME FOR GENEROSITY IN ARIZONA. THIS WEBSITE ALLOWS PEOPLE TO PLACE THEIR NAME ON THE VIRTUAL WALL OF LIFE AND ALLOWS PEOPLE TO SHARE THEIR STORY ABOUT ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION AND TRANSPLANTATION. NEARLY 1,000 NAMES AND 46 STORIES WERE ADDED TO THE WALL OF LIFE IN 2018.-IN 2018, 56 ARIZONA HOSPITALS AND HEALTH CARE ORGANIZATIONS ADDED TO THE REGISTRY THROUGH THE HEALTH CARE FOR HOPE CAMPAIGN DURING APRIL.-WROTE, EDITED AND DESIGNED NINE NEWSLETTERS TO REACH DONATION PARTNERS. REVAMPED THE YEAR IN REVIEW TO HIGHLIGHT ANNUAL DATA AND HEARTFELT STORIES.-CONTINUED TO PROMOTE DONATION AND OFFER DONATION REGISTRATION AND INFORMATION ON THE DONATELIFEAZ.ORG WEBSITE FOR THE PUBLIC AND ON DNAZ.ORG FOR KEY STAKEHOLDERS IN THE DONATION PROCESS, INCLUDING HOSPITALS AND FUNERAL HOMES.
