Organizations Filed Purposes: The mission of the CBIA Education Foundation is to help develop a skilled, knowledgable workforce in Connecticut.

CBIA Education Foundation (CBIA EF) helps to develop a skilled workforce in Connecticut. It accomplishes this mission by stimulating career development and exploration, and promoting job training to match employer needs.

Funded by a grant from United Technologies, CBIAEF supports the Academy of Engineering and Green Technologies, a National Academy Foundation (NAF) academy at Hartford Public High School. The NAF model includes embedded industry-informed curriculum, a school-based Industry Advisory Board and work-based learning experiences to prepare students for college and careers. Some highlights of this year's work were collegiate and pre-apprenticeship experiences; innovative programs to reach disengaged students through interaction with professionals of similar ethnic backgrounds about post-graduation options; delivery of events that stress the importance of education and development of professional skills; and integrating business volunteers into a student success center to support tutoring, mentoring and work-based learning.

The Gawlicki Family Foundation grant funds an internship program to help inner city students at Hartford High School define a vision for their future by giving them paid work experience. The program staff cultivate and coordinate internships at area businesses and organizations that ensure quality work-based learning experiences for students, and work with the students one-on-one throughout the school year and summer to help them achieve success.

CBIAEF is the sector intermediary for the Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics (TDL) Workforce Partnership, funded by the Workforce Solutions Collaborative of Metro Hartford. CBIAEF brings together business, education, labor, and workforce development partners to develop and implement solutions to increase the pipeline of skilled TDL workers. Services provided to low- income, low-skill job seekers in the greater Hartford area included financial and case management support for students enrolled in commercial driver license (CDL) training programs, CDL training scholarships, and financial literacy connections. Employer services included job seeker referrals and wage subsidies for hiring and training newly licensed graduates.
