Organizations Filed Purposes: TO BUILD A STRONG MULTI-RACIAL, ECONOMICALLY VIABLE ORGANIZATION OF FARMWORKERS THROUGHOUT FLORIDA EMPOWERING FARMWORKERS TO RESPOND TO AND GAIN CONTROL OVER THE SOCIAL, POLITICAL, ECONOMIC AND WORKPLACE ISSUES THAT AFFECT THEIR LIVES.

MIGRANT SEASONAL FARMWORKERS PROGRAM- VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION- The purpose of this project is to identify and refer Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers (MSFWs} with disabilities and/or their family members to the Department of Education/Division of Vocational Rehabilitation through outreach activities. The objective is to provide VR services to clients who have disabilities and/or their family members who have traditionally been underserved or unserved in the state of Florida in an effort to increase employment opportunities. The following Florida counties are served: Orange, Polk, Highlands, Miami-Dade, Collier, Hillsborough and Volusia. - 138 CLIENTS SERVED- Project ended Feb 2019

EMORY UNIVERSITY- RESEARCH Projects. This project is a study of how heat stress affects farmworkers. Various activities included: characterization of the heat exposure and work activities of fernery, crop, and nursery workers in Central Florida; characterization of the physiological response and HRI symptoms to heat exposures among fernery, crop, and nursery workers in Central Florida and determining the extent to which environmental factors, work characteristics, and individual worker characteristics influence the physiological response to heat. -To-date over 250 participants were enrolled in the study.

REBUILDING LOCAL FOOD SYSTEMS PROJECT/AGROECOLOGY- The goal of the project is to improve the health, self reliance and food security of low-income farmworker families and communities through expansion of community gardens, markets, garden/nutrition education and food/farm entrepreneur training.-Maintained three Campesinos' Gardens sites, agroecological community gardens run primarily by and for farmworker families in the areas of Fellsmere, Florida City, and Pierson, which are sited on under-utilized city/town-owned lands. 35 member families, including participated in more than 15 trainings on organic production, soil health, and composting. Conducted 16 workshops with approximately 120 participants on cooperative structure and practices. To date, members have logged over 1,500 work hours in the gardens.
