Organizations Filed Purposes: SINCE 1947, WE HAVE BEEN FULFILLING OUR MISSION TO "EMPOWER FAMILIES AND THEIR CHILDREN TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL."

INFANT AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM - IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES THAT MEET THE DEVELOPMENTAL NEEDS OF CHILDREN BIRTH TO THREE YEARS OF AGE AND THEIR FAMILIES RELATED TO ENHANCING THE CHILD'S PHYSICAL, INTELLECTUAL, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL AND LINGUISTIC GROWTH. THE PHILOSOPHY THAT GUIDES IMUA'S EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAM IS CENTERED ON A MODEL REVOLVING AROUND THREE PRINCIPLES: ENHANCING THE CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT, PROVIDING SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE TO THE FAMILY THROUGH COACHING AND MODELING AND MAXIMIZING THE CHILD'S AND FAMILY'S POTENTIAL IN SOCIETY. A FAMILY-CENTERED TEAM APPROACH IS UTILIZED WHERE ALL TEAM MEMBERS PARTICIPATE EQUALLY AND SYSTEMATICALLY ACROSS DISCIPLINE BOUNDARIES TO ENSURE IMUA STAYS TRUE TO THIS PHILOSOPHY ALONG WITH OTHER APPROPRIATE (CONTINUED TO SCHEDULE O)INFANT AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (CONTINUED)TECHNIQUES SUCH AS THE PRIMARY SERVICE PROVIDER (PSP) APPROACH AND COACHING MODEL. APPROXIMATELY 382 CHILDREN WERE SERVED IN FY 2019.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM - PROVIDES SERVICES TO CHILDREN AGE THREE TO SIX WHO ARE AT RISK OF OR HAVE DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS THAT FALL OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES. THE NEEDS OF EACH CHILD WILL BE MET THROUGH IMUA FAMILY SERVICES' PROVISION OF PROFESSIONAL THERAPEUTIC SERVICES FOR THE CHILD AND SUPPORT FOR THOSE INVOLVED IN THE CHILD'S LIFE IN ORDER TO HELP THEM THRIVE IN THE HOME AND COMMUNITY ENVIRONMENTS, AND BE BETTER PREPARED FOR KINDERGARTEN AND BEYOND. APPROXIMATELY 39 CHILDREN WERE SERVED IN FY 2019.

IMUA AUTISM SERVICES - WITH THE INCREASE IN PREVALENCE OF CHILDREN DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS REACHING 1 IN 68, IMUA FAMILY SERVICES HAS CREATED A PROGRAM TARGETED TO TREAT INDIVIDUALS IN THE EARLY CHILDHOOD AGE GROUP WHO ARE DIAGNOSED WITH THE DISORDER. TREATMENT FOR THESE INDIVIDUALS IS BASED ON THE PRINCIPLES OF APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS (ABA) AND TARGETS THE REDUCTION OF CHALLENGING BEHAVIORS INCLUDING AGGRESSION, SELF-INJURY AND NON-COMPLIANCE WHILE ALSO TEACHING THE ACQUISITION OF SOCIALLY SIGNIFICANT BEHAVIORS TO INCLUDE FUNCTIONAL COMMUNICATION, SOCIAL SKILLS, MOTOR AND COGNITIVE SKILLS, GUIDED BY TYPICAL DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES TO DEVELOP GOALS AND OBJECTIVES. TREATMENT IS ABLE TO TAKE PLACE IN THE HOME, COMMUNITY, OR IN THE IMUA OFFICE, AND CAN BE DELIVERED (CONTINUED TO SCHEDULE O)IMUA AUTISM SERVICES (CONTINUED)USING A TIERED SERVICE DELIVERY MODEL. SERVICE DELIVERY IS COMPRISED OF PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND SUPERVISION PROVIDED BY A BOARD CERTIFIED BEHAVIOR ANALYST WHO IS LICENSED TO PRACTICE IN THE STATE OF HAWAII, AS WELL AS A REGISTERED BEHAVIOR TECHNICIAN WHO CARRIES OUT 1:1 SERVICES. PARENT TRAINING SESSIONS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE AS PART OF TREATMENT TO PROMOTE GENERALIZATION AND MAINTENANCE OF SKILLS, AS WELL AS EMPOWERING PARENTS AS ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS IN THEIR CHILD'S TREATMENT. IMUA'S AUTISM SERVICES PROGRAM SERVED 8 CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES DURING FY 2019, PROVIDING 2,600 INDIVIDUAL THERAPY HOURS TO CHILDREN IN MAUI COUNTY WITH A DIAGNOSIS OF AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER.
