Organizations Filed Purposes: THE CAPITAL RC&D AREA COUNCIL NETWORKS PEOPLE, RESOURCES AND PROJECTS TO PROMOTE RESPONSIBLE USE AND CONSERVATION OF OUR REGION'S NATURAL, COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC RESOURCES.

EMPLOYEES AND PROGRAMS OF CAPITAL RC&D HELPED FARMERS AND OTHER LANDOWNERS ADOPT A WIDE ARRAY OF ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP PRACTICES TO BENEFIT WATER AND SOIL QUALITY. DURING 2020 WE SUPPORTED FARMER-TO-FARMER AND TECHNICAL EXPERT-LED ASSISTANCE AND EDUCATION INCLUDING FILLING 25 TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE POSITIONS WORKING DIRECTLY WITH LANDOWNERS. IN ADDITION, WE PRODUCED SEVEN PODCASTS FOCUSED ON CONSERVATION ACTIVITIES IN OUR REGION AND ON INNOVATIVE DEMONSTRATION FARMS GRAZING COVER CROPS. WE ALSO PRODUCED THREE VIDEOS ON VARIED TOPICS INCLUDING CONSERVATION PLANNING AND PROPERTY MANAGEMENT FOR WILDLIFE AND SUPPORTED 36 ONE-ON-ONE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE VISITS TO FARMS CONTROLLING 690 ACRES AND TWO PASTURE WALKS FOCUSING ON PRACTICES THAT BENEFIT WATER AND SOIL QUALITY AS WELL AS THE FARM'S BOTTOM LINE.

CAPITAL RC&D WITH THE SUPPORT OF COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICTS SURVEYED THE USE OF TWO IMPORTANT AGRICULTURAL BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES - COVER CROPPING AND CONSERVATION TILLAGE. WE DID THIS BY CONDUCTING TRANSECT SURVEYS OF THIRTY-TWO COUNTIES IN THE CHESAPEAKE BAY WATERSHED OF PENNSYLVANIA. THE DATA COLLECTED HELPS PENNSYLVANIA FARMERS GET CREDIT FOR THEIR CONSERVATION EFFORTS AND INFORMS AGRICULTURAL AGENCIES ABOUT THE STATUS OF THESE PRACTICES.

THESE PROGRAM ACTIVITIES INCLUDED FISCAL SPONSORSHIP OF FLEDGLING ORGANIZATIONS AND SUPPORT FOR RELATED ORGANIZATIONS IN OUR REGION AND A STATE-WIDE ORGANIZATION WITH A RELATED MISSION. AMONG THE ACTIVITIES, CAPITAL RC&D PROVIDES ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT FOR THE STATE-WIDE, PENNSYLVANIA GRAZING LANDS COALITION. IN ADDITION, CAPITAL RC&D WORKS WITH CONSERVATION PARTNERS IN OUR REGION TO SUPPORT COLLABORATION UNDER SEVERAL INITIATIVES INCLUDING THE SOUTH MOUNTAIN PARTNERSHIP, THE CUMBERLAND COUNTY FOOD SYSTEMS ALLIANCE AND THE CUMBERLAND CONSERVATION COLLABORATIVE. OUTCOMES INCLUDED PROGRAMING FOR WATERSHED GROUPS, PLANNING AND FUNDRAISING SUPPORT AND SUPPORT FOR INTERN RECRUITMENT. DURING 2020, WE ALSO SUPPORTED A SCHOOL-BASED GARDENING PROJECT IN ONE SCHOOL DISTRICT IN DAUPHIN COUNTY.
