Organizations Filed Purposes: WHIDBEY ISLAND NOURISHES IS A VOLUNTEER-BASED, NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES NUTRITIOUS, READY-TO-EAT MEALS, AT NO COST, FOR THOSE IN NEED ON SOUTH WHIDBEY, FOCUSING ON OUR YOUNG PEOPLE.

W.I.N.'s primary activity is to offer families prepared, nutritious lunches for weekends and school vacations. The lunches consist of sandwiches, either meat-and-cheese or peanut butter and jelly on organic whole wheat bread. Yogurt, string cheese, fresh fruit, high-protein nuts and dried-fruit trail mix, vegetable snacks, assorted pasts, bean, rice and vegetable salads are included. Occasional low-fat, high-fiber treats are also included. Each child receives 2 lunches per week-end during the normal school year. Vacation lunches are also either delivered or made available for pickup. There is about 20% less consumption during the summer months.The meals are available three ways: "the Backpack Program sacks are delivered directly to the children at schools"families make arrangements for pick-up or we deliver to their homes" "a la carte" items are available from self-service refrigerators at our local food bank (South Whidbey Good Cheer) and South Whidbey Community Center.The W.I.N. DELIVERED MEALS PROGRAM - NUTRITIOUS LUNCHES WERE DELIVERED DIRECTLY TO THE CHILDREN AT SCHOOLS

SELF SERVE PROGRAM - "A LA CARTE" ITEMS WERE MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH SELF-SERVICE REFRIGERATORS AT THE LOCAL FOOD BANK AND AT THE LOCAL COMMUNITY CENTER.

FOOD EDUCATION PROGRAMS - PROVIDES FOR DEMONSTRATIONS AND MATERIALS ABOUT FOOD & NUTRITION EDUCATION.
