Organizations Filed Purposes: New Roots Haiti is dedicated to empowering parents to care for the needs of their families through education, employment, and nutrition assistance.

Farm Expansion - In 2019, we constructed a 1,600 square-foot building to house our feed mill that allows us to process corn and other ingredients into chicken and pig feed. Our intent is to source corn and as many other ingredients as possible locally, as animal feed is currently a large import into Haiti. We believe that local production is one of the most stable and significant ways in which we can stimulate the local economy. Over the second half of 2019, we purchased over 49,500 pounds of corn directly from community members. Additionally, through the building project, we employed 40 people from the surrounding area, which also had a direct impact in the local economy.

Farm Operations: Production & Processing - This year we raised 13,600 chickens, 146 pigs, and 7 steers on pasture. In addition to our five production employees, we also trained six interns on our animal husbandry techniques. Our regenerative production model is increasing soil fertility, which helps to increase the quality of our pastures. Our four full-time and 12 part-time processing employees butchered and sold 26,800 pounds of meat to the local community from our agricultural processing facility.

Community Programs - We significantly expanded our community soccer outreach program in 2019. Our team of local coaches grew from two to seven. Together, they oversee 13 teams of boys and girls, ages 7-12, from the surrounding community. We believe soccer is an avenue in which we can reach youth in our area and equip them with life-skills for the future. At the end of each practice, our coaches teach a lesson on health, nutrition, hygiene, gender equality, or sexual health. In addition to learning about these topics, we've seen growth in other areas of the children's lives, as they make strides in gaining self-confidence and learn to problem-solve. Since the program's inception in late 2018, it has nearly tripled in size.
