Alaska Forum on the Environment: The Alaska Forum on the Environment is a statewide gathering of environmental professionals from government agencies, non-profit, and for-profit businesses, community leaders, Alaskan Youth, conservationists, biologists, and community elders. The event is an educational foundation for all Alaskans and a unique opportunity to interact with others on environmental issues and challenges.
Environmental Technician Apprenticeship Program: The Alaska Forum is the registered sponsor of the Environmental Technician Apprenticeship Program by the US Department of Labor. An Environmental Tehcnician Apprentice will receive specific classroom instruction and work 4,000 hours of on-the-job training to develop skills as a proficient and versatile worker.
The Green Star Communities program supports AK communities that want to practice waste reduction, energy conservation and pollution prevention. Communities that meet the Green Star Community Standards are recognized for their accomplishments.The Green Star Communities Program provides positive incentives and fills key service gaps for rural AK communities by providing technical assistance and training to remote waste and utility operators,community enviromental personnel,and local and tribal conservation personnel. The program promotes community-based conservation efforts to improve landfill operations, waste reduction,energy conservation,and wastewater and clean drinking water issues. Sustainable village enviromental programs are realized by approaching waste and resource management with an integrated community-focused approach. Green Star Communities aims to improve the quality of life and sustain economic development without endangering the enviroment for rural AK communities in the greatest need.
