Nepal: As part of Solace's commitment to women, fair wage and the use of recycled materials we created a line of products using rubber from recycled tires, used snack chip wrappers and used rice bags. As this was a totally new product in the market place we spent over 1 year training women and families, working on designs, making samples, testing the market, purchasing materials, getting production online and shipping products to market both in Nepal and the USA. We also opened a shop in Kathmandu which served not only as a retail outlet for these fair wage recycled products but also provided a training facility for construction of samples in house and training facility for beaded and woven jewelry craft and practical instruction in international sales, marketing and packaging. Furthermore the shop provides a way for us to understand the local and expatriate market and therefore refine our designs for the wholesale export market.Ongoing support for this cottage industry.
