Organizations Filed Purposes: THE ORGANIZATION EXISTS TO SERVE THE HUNGRY AND THE HOMELESS OF FAIRBANKS NORTH STAR BOROUGH WITH NUTRITIOUS MEALS. WE SERVE A HOT MEAL EVERY WEEK DAY AND PREPARE TAKE-AWAY SACK LUNCHES. WE TREAT OUR GUESTS WITH RESPECT AND OFFER THEM A SAFE AND WARM PLACE TO BE FOR SEVERAL HOURS EACH DAY.

TO INSPIRE COMMUNITY COLLABORATION TO ENRICH THE LIVES OF OUR MOST VULNERABLE NEIGHBORS THROUGH NUTRITIOUS MEALS SERVED WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT. WE FEED THE HUNGRY AND HOMELESS OF FAIRBANKS NORTH STAR BOROUGH EACH WEEK DAY OF THE YEAR FROM 7:30 AM TO 10 AM. WE ARE ALSO A PASS-THROUGH AGENCY FOR WARM CLOTHING AND TOILETRIES. IN 2019, WE FED 31,156 HOT MEALS AND 10,097 SACK LUNCHES TO OVER 600 INDIVIDUALS.

IN 2019, THE BREAD LINE SERVED A RECORD-BREAKING 31,156 FREE SIT-DOWN MEALS AND 10,097 TO-GO LUNCHES OUT OF STONE SOUP CAFE - OUR DOWNTOWN SOUP KITCHEN IN FAIRBANKS, ALASKA. IN ORDER TO MEET THIS NEED, THE STONE SOUP CAFE TOOK IN OVER 45,821 POUNDS OF DONATED FOOD - THE BULK OF WHICH CAME FROM THE FAIRBANKS COMMUNITY FOOD BANK AND OUR FOOD RECLAMATION WORK WITH THE FAIRBANKS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL AS WELL AS THE GENEROSITY OF INDIVIDUAL DONORS FROM OUR COMMUNITY. WE ALSO SUPPLEMENT OUR FOOD SUPPLY WITH A SMALL COMMUNITY GARDEN WHERE WE GROW OUR OWN FOODS. THE STONE SOUP CAFE IS OPEN MONDAY -FRIDAY, EVERY WEEK OF THE YEAR. WE DO NOT CLOSE FOR HOLIDAYS OR FOUL WEATHER BECAUSE WE BELIEVE IN FEEDING PEOPLE AND AFFIRMING LIVES EVERY DAY. IN 2019, 200 VOLUNTEERS PUT IN SHIFTS TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR MOST MARGINALIZED NEIGHBORS HAD A SAFE PLACE TO COME FOR A HOT MEAL.IN ADDITION TO THE STONE SOUP CAFE, THE BREAD LINE ALSO HOLDS A CONTRACT TO PROVIDE LUNCH AND DINNER FOR THE TANANA CHIEF'S HOUSING FIRST INITIATIVE. EACH YEAR WE PROVIDE 14,600 NUTRITIOUS DINNERS AND 5,475 LUNCHES FOR THEIR RESIDENTS. IN ALL, WE SERVE OVER 500 UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS FACING HUNGER IN INTERIOR ALASKA.THIS YEAR, OUR STONE SOUP COMMUNITY GARDEN GREW INTO ITS 5TH YEAR. WITH ONE PART-TIME STAFFER AND OVER 20 REGULAR VOLUNTEERS, THE GARDEN WAS SUCCESSFULLY HARVESTED BRINGING IN HUNDREDS OF POUNDS OF PRODUCE THAT WAS USED IN OUR SOUP KITCHEN.

OUR CULINARY JOB TRAINING PROGRAM, STONE'S THROW, CONTINUES TO MAKE STRIDES FORWARD. IN 2019, WE DEEPENDED OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE FAIRBANKS YOUTH FACILITY - DOING OUTREACH WORK WITH THE CHILDREN INCARCERATED THERE. WE ALSO DEVELOPED NEW PATHWAYS TO SPOTLIGHT GRADUATES OF OUR PROGRAM AT THE LOCAL FARMER'S MARKETS WITH A VERY SUCCESSFUL SEASON OF "CHEF AT THE MARKET" - IN COOPERATION WITH THE TANANA VALLEY FARMER'S MARKET AND THE SOUTHSIDE COMMUNITY MARKET.

ANOTHER PROGRAM WE RUN IS A FAMILY VOLUNTEERING INITIATIVE - KID'S CAFE. WE WERE ABLE TO SECURE A VOLUNTEER POSITION FOR THIS PROGRAM AND, WORKING WITH THE FAIRBANKS CHILDREN'S MUSEUM, WERE ABLE TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN WE COULD ACCOMODATE AT EACH EVENT. ALL AROUND, A VERY FUN PROGRAM!
