Organizations Filed Purposes: Conserving the natural heritage of the Kenai Peninsula for future generations.

Land: We are always developing new projects and working with existing and new partners. In 2019, we worked with the City of Homer on the construction of an ADA accessible trail on KHLT land and on City of Homer land. We are working with Alaska Department of Fish and Game to develop multiple projects.

Stewardship: Once KHLT preserves land through conservation easement or by outright ownership, KHLT becomes perpetually responsible to ensure the conservation purposes for protecting the property are followed. This perpetual responsibility requires highly trained staff with the proper equipment and the funds needed to sustain this work, including the funds necessary to defend the conservation values in court if needed. KHLT staff at least annually monitors property under its care and addresses violations of the conservation restrictions when necessary.

Community Outreach: Alaskans care deeply about their land, fish and wildlife, and about the community. KHLT's role is to listen to community members and landowners about what land is important to them and their families. KHLT works with scientists to understand the conservation values of land proposed for conservation and works with other appropriate professionals to ensure the transactions are completed appropriately. The community outreach component of kHLT's work consists of frequent presentations, a strong social media presence, email contacts, e-news and an annual magazine, as well as outreach to individuals.
