Organizations Filed Purposes:
UNITED WAY OF SOUTHEAST ALASKA WAS ORGANIZED FOR THE PURPOSE OF ASSESSING ON A CONTINUING BASIS THE NEED FOR HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICE PROGRAMS; TO SEEK SOLUTIONS TO HUMAN PROBLEMS, TO ASSIST IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF UNITED WAY MEMBERS AGENCIES; TO PROMOTE PREVENTIVE ACTIVITIES; AND TO FOSTER COOPERATION AMONG LOCAL, STATE, AND NATIONAL AGENCIES SERVING THE COMMUNITY. IN FULFILLING THESE PROGRAMS, UNITED WAY RECEIVES AND DISTRIBUTES BOTH PRIVATE AND PUBLIC PLEDGES IN ACCORDANCE WITH DONOR WISHES THROUGH THREE DIFFERENT FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGNS: THE PRIVATE CAMPAIGN, SHARE (STATE OF ALASKA) CAMPAIGN AND THE COMBINED FEDERAL CAMPAIGN. THE PRIVATE CAMPAIGN IS ADMINISTERED BY UNITED WAY OF SOUTHEAST ALASKA WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MANAGING THE FUNDRAISING DRIVES, AND COLLECTING AND DISBURSING ALL MONEYS RECEIVED FROM THE ANNUAL CAMPAIGNS. THE SHARE CAMPAIGN IS ADMINISTERED BY UNITED WAY OF ANCHORAGE BUT UWSEAK IS RESPONSIBLE FOR DISBURSING ALL PROMISES TO GIVE PER THE DONOR'S DESIGNATION.
UNITED WAY COLLABORATES WITH COMMUNITIES AND AGENCIES ACROSS SOUTHEAST ALASKA TO STRENGTHEN AND IMPROVE THE HEALTH, EDUCATION AND FINANCIAL STABILITY OF ALL INDIVIDUALS.
OUR PRIMARY PROGRAM IS TO SERVICE THE APPROXIMATELY THIRTY-THREE HUMAN SERVICE AGENCIES UNDER OUR UNITED WAY UMBRELLA THROUGH CONDUCTING FUNDRAISING AND AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS AND COORDINATING AGENCY EFFORTS AND RESOURCES.
AMERICORPS MEMBERS SERVE DIRECTLY WITH NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO TACKLE OUR NATION'S MOST PRESSING CHALLENGES. SERVICE TO OTHERS IS THE CORNERSTONE OF OUR NATIONAL CULTURE AND AN INDISPENSABLE PART OF THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE. AMERICORPS UNITES AMERICA BY BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER TO SERVICE COMMUNITIES. THE FOCUS OF THE UNITED WAY OF SOUTHEAST ALASKA AMERICORPS PROGRAM IS TO IMPROVE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN EARLY LITERACY. HOWEVER. WE ARE A MULTI-FOCUS PROGRAM WITH MEMBERS SERVING OUTSIDE THIS AREA.
PARTICIPATING WITH THE JUNEAU COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, GAUGINE FOUNDATION, ANS CAMP 70 TO PROVIDE GRANT TO JUNEAU SCHOOL DISTRICT TO HELP PROVIDE BREAKFAST TO ALL STUDENTS, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO HIGH SCHOOLS. OUR PARTNERSHIP IS VITAL TO SUSTAINING THE UNIVERSAL BREAKFAST PROGRAM. PROGRAM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO GROW AND EXPAND. THE POSITIVE IMPACTS WILL START TO SHOW UP ON A GREATER SCALE AS TIME PASSES (BETTER ATTENDANCE RATES, HIGHER ACHIEVEMENT SCORES, LESS DISCIPLINE/ TRUANCY ISSUES, ETC.). FEEDING 800 STUDENTS BREAKFAST PER DAY IS ALREADY AMAZING, BUT OUR GOAL IS FOR THE NUMBER TO REACH 1000 DURING THIS SCHOOL YEAR.
