Research Program: Alaska Whale Foundation continued with several collaborative research projects with graduate students and faculty from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Oregon State University, University of Alaska Fairbanks, and University of Alaska Southeast. These studies focused primarily on the health, abundance, and behavior of whales in Alaska and Hawaii.

Ecological Monitoring: Alaska Whale Foundation continued its long-term whale monitoring program to track the health and abundance of Southeast Alaska's humpback whales. This program was initiated in 2016 in collaboration with NOAA, Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve and University of Alaska Southeast following the removal of the population from the Endangered Species List and subseqent observations suggesting declines in population, health and abundance.

Education: Alaska Whale Foundation provided active learning opportunities through focused training and involvement in field work and data analyses. Two graduate students, one prospective graduate student and one undergraduate student intern joined the Alaska Whale Foundation field team in 2020.
