Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE MISSION OF 4-H IS TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE, DEVELOP LIFE SKILLS, FORM ATTITUDES, AND PRACTICE BEHAVIOR THAT WILL ENABLE THEM TO BECOME SELF DIRECTING, PRODUCTIVE, AND CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS OF SOCIETY.
THE ARKANSAS 4-H PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO DEVELOP LEADERSHIP & LIFE SKILLS. DEVELOPING YOUTH TO BE SELF-DIRECTING, PRODUCTIVE, AND CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS OF SOCIETY THROUGH 82 PROJECT AREAS THAT HELP YOUTH GAIN THE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND BEHAVIOR NEEDED TO BE SUCCESSFUL ADULTS PREPARING YOUTH FOR THEIR FUTURE ROLES IN AREAS CRITICAL TO OUR WORKFORCE, LIKE SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS. ALSO, THE 4-H PROGRAM FOCUSES ON THE "5 C'S" OF POSITIVE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT - COMPETENCE, CONFIDENCE, CONNECTION, CHARACTER, AND CARING/COMPASSION BY INSTILLING AND DEVELOPING THE "5 C'S", CONTRIBUTION IS OFTEN DEVELOPED, A CONTRIBUTION TO SELF, FAMILY, COMMUNITY, AND THE INSTITUTION OF A CIVIL SOCIETY. YOUTH WHO DO NOT DEVELOP A HIGH LEVEL OF THE FIVE C'S WOULD BE AT A HIGHER RISK FOR A DEVELOPMENTAL PATH THAT INCLUDED PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL PROBLEMS AND RISKS (LERNER 2004).
ARKANSAS 4-H CENTER: EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTER AVAILABLE PRIMARILY TO 4-H GROUPS TO PROVIDE TRAINING SESSIONS, AWARDS BANQUETS, RETREATS, AND WORKSHOPS INCLUDING TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION.
SCHOLARSHIP AND STATE WIDE LEVEL EVENTS: JOINS 4-H MEMBERS FROM 75 COUNTIES FOR COMPETITION IN 50 AREAS AND TO BE RECOGNIZED AT THE STATE LEVEL FOR SERVICE PROJECTS; SCHOLARSHIP ALLOWS DONORS TO PRESENT SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS, GOVERNOR SCHOLARSHIPS, STATE HORSE CONTESTS, GRASSLAND, HORTICULTURE, AND PHOTOGRAPHY.
CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, LEADERSHIP AND NATIONAL LEVEL EVENTS: TEACHES YOUTH ABOUT AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP, LEGISLATURE, CONGRESSIONAL PROCESSES, AMERICAN CONSTITUTION, ETHNIC GROUPS, VOLUNTEERISM, VOTING RIGHTS AND PROCESS, LEADERSHIP, AND COMMUNICATION; NATIONAL CONTEST TRIPS AND NATIONAL CONFERENCES.
