CAMP ALDERSGATE CREATES LIFE-CHANGING EXPERIENCES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS, ENABLING THEM TO EXPAND THEIR WORLDS AND EXPRESS THEIR UNIQUE VOICES.
THE SUMMER MEDICAL CAMPS PROGRAM PROVIDES A TRADITIONAL WEEK-LONG RESIDENTIAL CAMP EXPERIENCE FOR CHILDREN, AGES 6 - 18, WHO HAVE MEDICAL CONDITIONS OR DISABILITIES. THE SEVEN WEEK PROGRAM CONSISTS OF FIVE MEDICAL CAMP SESSIONS DEDICATED TO CHILDREN WITH SPECIFIC MEDICAL CONDITIONS OR DISABILITIES, AS WELL AS TWO "KOTA CAMP" SESSIONS WHICH PROVIDE AN INCLUSIVE CAMPING ENVIRONMENT FOR CHILDREN WITH AND WITHOUT DISABILITIES. 310 CAMPERS ATTENDED A TOTAL OF SEVEN CAMPS.
EIGHT WEEKEND CAMPS WERE HELD FOR CHILDREN AGES 6 - 18. 174 CAMPERS ATTENDED SIX WEEKEND CAMPS DESIGNED FOR FAMILIES OF CHILDREN WITH VARIOUS MEDICAL/PHYSICAL CONDITIONS OR DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS. THE PROGRAM GIVES FAMILY MEMBERS A BREAK FROM RIGOROUS CARE-GIVING DUTIES, WHILE OFFERING THEIR CAMPERS A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES TO DEVELOP DAILY LIVING SKILLS, SELF-HELP SKILLS, AND POSITIVE SOCIALIZATION IN AN OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENT. 51 CAMPERS ATTENDED TWO WEEKEND KOTA CAMPS, DESIGNED FOR CHILDREN WITH AND WITHOUT DISABILITIES AND GIVING THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO EXCEL TOGETHER AND TO TEACH DISABILITY AWARENESS.
CAMP ALDERSGATE COLLABORATES WITH A VARIETY OF HEALTH AGENCIES AND SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS TO OFFER SPECIALTY CAMPS. THESE CAMPS PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP A PROGRAM TAILORED TO THE OBJECTIVES OF THE AGENCY, AS WELL AS GIVING PARTICIPANTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE CAMP ACTIVITIES. TYPICALLY THE PARTNERING ORGANIZATION PROVIDES THE PROGRAM AND STAFF TO SUPERVISE THE PARTICIPANTS. THE CAMP PROVIDES THE FACILITIES, FOOD SERVICE, AND A STAFF TO FACILITATE CAMP ACTIVITIES. IN 2019, A TOTAL OF SEVEN SPECIALTY CAMPS WERE HELD FOR 364 CAMPERS. IN ADDITION, A SIX-WEEK DAY CAMP WAS HELD FOR 28 CAMPERS IN 2019.
