Organizations Filed Purposes:
It is the Mission of the Film Noir Foundation to find and preserve films in danger of being lost or irreparably damaged and to ensure that high quality prints of these classic films remain in circulation for theatrical exhibition for future generations. Once these films are unearthed, restored and returned to circulation, the chances increase that the films will be made available on Blue-ray and/or made available for online streaming for future generations of film lovers to appreciate.
NOIR CITY Film Festivals. NOIR CITY, the annual San Francisco Film Noir Festival, begun in 2003, is the largest film noir-specific event in the U.S., and the centerpiece of the Film Noir Foundation's public awareness campaign. In addition to the 10-day San Francisco flagship festival at the Castro Theatre, the Film Noir Foundation hosted NOIR CITY festivals in 7 U.S. citites: Austin, Chicago, Detroit, Boston, Hollywood, Seattle, Washington D.C., plus a one-night event at the Castro Theatre in December -- NOIR CITY Xmas. In addition to the film festivals, the FNF porduced in FY2019 the quarterly NOIR CITY e-magazine, the printed NOIR CITY Annual publication, as well as promotional items including mugs and T-shirts -- all available for sale at NOIR CITY Festivals.
2109 Film Restoration Project - digital film restoration of the 1953 Argentine film El vampiro negro (The Black Vampire) by the Film Noir Foundation. Restoration performed through UCLA Film & Television Archive. (Hollywood Foreign Press Association Grant 2019 for $90,000.) Additional Restorations: $11,459 - La bestia debe morir (The Beast Must Die, Argentina 1952) - Subtitling. $10,910 - The Devil Thumbs a Ride (1947) - Sound Restoration Project witht U.S Library of Congress - FNF paid for the film's sound restoration
