Organizations Filed Purposes: Rhythmix Cultural Works (RCW) is a community cultural arts center that brings people of all ages together for high quality arts experiences in music, dance, theater, exhibits and arts education. RCW seeks to promote cultural awareness, encourage participation in the arts, support artists in the presentation of their work and to be a resource for community gatherings and events.

2019 Supplemental InfoIn 2019, RCW produced or hosted approximately 72 events, including classes, workshops and camps. RCW is the only organization providing ongoing cultural arts programming in the City of Alameda and served approximately 12,000 people. Rhythmix presented world music and dance; comedy; family programming and free community events including two Love Our Island Art Walks, and four Island Arts Concerts. RCW also produced an all-day Round the World free global music festival with hands-on arts activities for youth. The K Gallery at RCW presented six visual art exhibitions including a history talk for Alameda as Arcadia, and a free weekly Art Jam, where local artists come together to create in a shared studio environment. Approximately 50% of RCW programming was provided at no cost to the community in 2019.RCWs signature youth arts education programming, Performance Art and Learning (PAL), served over 3,000 students with world music and dance assemblies presented at no cost to participating AUSD and OUSD elementary schools. RCWs programmatic goals are to foster greater participation and inclusion in the arts by spotlighting artists of diverse heritages and increasing cultural understanding among audiences of varied backgrounds.Rhythmix hosted many other events including: Blues is a Woman, Caf Flamenco, a Diwali Festival, and a Tropical Latin Dance Party in addition to two Comedy Shows. RCW hosted two fundraisers, In the Spirit of Lennon and its annual Pour Your heart Out Benefit for the Arts sponsored by local businesses.Education: RCWs facility hosts a number of local teaching artists including the following ongoing classes: African Drumming, Bhangra dance, Belly Dance, Capoeira, Childrens Musical theater, Circle Singing, Cuban Salsa, Puerto Rican Bomba, Martial Arts and Zumba fitness. RCW hosted a series of summer camp sessions presented by the Bay Area Childrens Theater in its venue and school break camps by Jo Anne Yada. RCW supports all of its artists/instructors/renters by promoting them on its website (www.rhythmix.org), as well as social media outlets, weekly newsletter and print media ads.Outreach: RCW continues to provide its venue as an official Alameda County Polling Place for June and November elections on an as-needed basis. RCW is a monthly meeting place for the Alameda Backyard Growers and provides rental space to local artists for performances and community organizations such as the Alameda Education Foundation for fundraisers.
