In 2019, approximately 122 volunteers logged over 23,000 hours of their time in a variety of different capacities, including animal fostering, animal feeding, grooming and training, book sorting, book sales, thrift store sales and outreach events. The equivalent of 11 full-time workers for a savings of $132,000 calculated at the current minimum wage of $12.00/hr. HSSF continues its missiona commitment to stop and prevent animal abuse, cruelty, and neglect by investigating complaints, taking legal action when necessary, and following up with current cases. HSSF Humane Officers investigations range from private individuals and abusive entertainment activities (such as specific rodeo events) to puppy mills. Officers work closely with the Placer County District Attorneys office and the courts to assist in the prosecution of animal abusers. HSSF Humane Officers continue to respond and investigate animal cruelty reports. They also reach out to the community in various ways to increase awareness of the scope of humane animal law enforcement.
