THE BERKELEY ZEN CENTER IS A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE PRACTICE ZAZEN (MEDITATION) TOGETHER DAILY, WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE ZEN CENTER COMMUNITY, UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF THE ABBOT.
MEDITATION, WHICH IS CALLED ZAZEN, OR SITTING IN STILLNESS, IS THE CENTER OF OUR PRACTICE, FOLLOWING AND ADAPTING THE TRADITIONS OF SOTO ZEN BUDDHISM.
DAILY MEDITATION SCHEDULE OFFERERED TO THE PUBLIC, MORNING AND AFTERNNON, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY AND SATURDAY MORNING PROGRAM OF MEDITATION AND LECTURE.
RESIDENTIAL TRAINING: THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES A STRUCTURED ENVIRONMENT FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 ZEN STUDENTS, WHO LIVE ON THE PREMISES AND FOLLOW A SCHEDULE OF RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES.
RETREATS: THE ZEN CENTER CONDUCTS A 1-7 DAY RETREAT EACH MONTH, WHICH INCLUDES 10 HOURS OF SILENT MEDITATION. 25-30 PEOPLE ATTEND. FEES ARE COLLECTED. MEALS ARE PROVIDED.
