Organizations Filed Purposes:
BOSS's mission is to help homeless, poor and disabled people achieve health and self-sufficiency, and to fight against the root causes of poverty and homelessness in its community of Alameda County.
CRISIS INTERVENTION & HOMELESSNESS PREVENTION: Mentally disabled individuals received clinical (mental health) case management , disabled individuals received representative payee assistance. Over 8,700 showers and over 600 laundry loads completed for homeless individuals, plus information and referrals, rest/respite, and computer access. HOUSING: families and individuals provided with emergency shelter with meals, amenities, and support services, families & individuals permanently housed at BOSS permanent supportive housing programs and from shelters, families/individuals provided with rental subsidies. EMPLOYMENT: YOUTH- work experience hours provided to high risk youth; youth placed in jobs; obtain GED, vocational certificate or other education benchmark ADULTS- Returning citizens: 406 citizens returning from incarceration received barrier-removal assistance; 337 placed in subsidized employment and 185 placed in permanent unsubsidized employment averaging $17/hr § Disabled: 25 severely mentally ill individuals provided with employment assistance - 8 found employment, and 3 enrolled in school § Homeless: VIOLENCE PREVENTION & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: 676 youth & family members reached in high risk West Oakland neighborhoods, through 181 intensive outreach hours, 348 street outreach hours, and 22 community events. 60 individuals engaged in education on social justice issues and organizing for specific policy reforms. 17 youth awarded Rising Star gifts & community recognition (4 educational scholarships).
