Organizations Filed Purposes:
Central Works' mission is to develop and produce new plays for the theater, building a community where our commitment to new plays and civic engagement flourish together. We are committed to social justice and the exploration of pressing political issues facing our world, inviting our community to reflect, converse, and connect in civic engagement.
Central Works' mission is to develop and produce new plays for the theater; give public performances in voice, music and movement; offer classes and workshops in playwriting; sponsor events for all of the above by the corporation's performing ensemble, as well as other community arts groups; and generally to engage in the promotion of the arts.
In 2020 the organization developed and produced 1 world premiere play for a total of 19 live performances. In response to the Covid-19 shutdown of live theater, we produced 2 new audio plays online and 2 theater ongoing podcasts, playing to a total audience of over 1500. Ticket prices were offered with a sliding scale of $0-$35. The Central Works Writers Group, an 8-week writing workshop for 8 invited playwrights, met for 2 sessions, culminating in 16 online staged readings of their work. Another playwriting class met for 3 eight-week sessions, engaging another 24 students. A total of 19 artists were contracted for the season.
