GPP works within and across social movement sectorsto foster greater alignment around shared goals and strategies for transformational change.Through a combination of strategic consulting and political education, our team helps groups make shifts in their work, to move from short-term, transactional organizing toward more transformational approaches.Our strategy tools include multi-dimensional power analysis, engaging in meaning-making, developing long-term agendas and integrated analyses of class, race and gender.
Grassroots Policy Project works to transition community and labor organizing from short-term strategies aimed at winning incremental change towards long-term strategies for structural transformation. We provide strategic consulting and education for grassroots organizations.
Our program is designed to engage staff and leaders of advocacy groups in education and strategic planning for more effective interventions on behalf of the communities they serve. In 2019, we worked with advocacy coalitions in four states, conducting on average three strategic planning and education sessions in each state, for a total of 12 sessions, each with 20 to 30 participants. The sessions included a practicum so that participants could adapt the curriculum and conduct trainings for their local field offices. In addition, we worked with three national networks, conducting sessions that reached hundreds of leaders, developing briefing papers, and co-developing curriculum materials. In June of 2019 we co-hosted a week long training series that brought together 40 advocacy leaders from across the country. These leaders are using our curriculum with their organizations, extending the reach of our work exponentially.
