MESA advances a new generation of agrarian leaders, linking innovations in sustainable agriculture worlwide with ancestral knowledge to promote land stewardshipplace-appropriate production and cultural awareness
MESA's Local Mobilization Program provides education, training and tools for a new generation of farmers in California's Bay Area to create socially-just, ecologically sustainable and economically viable urban and peri-urban farm businesses. MESA activities include development of an urban farm to support field experience, mentorship opportunities and incubator project support for Bay Area Farmer Training program graduates and other community members, including immigrants, refugees, formerly incarcerated, and under-resourced beginning farmers in having strong voices to lead their communities towards thriving, equitable and resilient food systems.
Exchange Program.MESA sponsors annual agricultural exchanges between international trainees aka Stewards and U.S.-based farms and companies aka Hosts. MESA provides grant support for farms with educational focus to further support mentorship and innovative small-scale projects. MESA provides visa sponsorship, monthly program benefits, educational events and staff support services for its international Stewards and U.S. Host ParticipantsInternational program. MESA forms strategic relationships with global partner NGOs and universities around the world that are committed to sustainable agriculture. MESA also fundraises for steward alumni to implement small scale home country projects and to host American counterparts in their communities.
Curriculum.MESA has developed interactive, Online agroecology curriculum for our exchange participants Stewards to augment -on training in sustainable agriculture. We now offer customized courses for exchange participants to receive a Certificate in Applied Agroecology for both the U. S.-based and outbound training programs.
