Organizations Filed Purposes: Shawl-Anderson Dance Center is committed to nurturing and mentoring the growth of dancers and choreographers; cultivating a healthy and supportive atmosphere for creative expression; sustaining traditions essential to excellence in the field; and, fostering the evolution of the art of dance.

Adult Program: Shawl-Anderson Dance Center provides 50 drop-in classes per week for beginners through professional adults in ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, yoga, alignment, Pilates and other somatic practices. Additional workshops are offered in all styles of movement and dance year-round. Adult students range from age 18 to over 90 years of age and we serve over 2,000 people each year. All classes and instructors focus on the development of the whole person as well the teaching and learning of dance technique in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Shawl-Anderson's main facility closed to the public on March 13, 2020 due to COVID-19. Within two weeks of closure, the Adult Program moved into an online format with classes offered through a Zoom platform. In the "SADC Online" format, the program serves approximately 300 adults with 35 class offerings each week.

Youth Program: We offer 70 classes each week in ballet, modern, jazz, and hip-hop for children ages 1.5 to 18 at all levels. We served 750 youth through our academic year program and specialty summer programs. Teaching staff includes 20 instructors with credentials ranging from professional dancers to college graduates and those with postgraduate degrees in dance, the arts and education. Shawl-Anderson's main facility closed to the public on March 13, 2020 due to COVID-19. Within two weeks of closure, the Youth Program moved into an online format with classes offered through a Zoom platform.

Professional Dance Program: Shawl-Anderson Dance Center's professional dance programming supports local and regional artists through performance opportunities, residencies, fiscal sponsorship and space rentals. These programs are year round and cumulatively support the creative work of over 100 choreographers and performers annually. Shawl-Anderson's main facility closed to the public on March 13, 2020 due to COVID-19. All performances and events in-house were canceled, postponed, or moved to an online format. All rehearsals and residencies were canceled or postponed and the artists that were to be served in 2020 will be prioritized when the dance center is able to reopen safely.
