TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION, TRAINING, LEADERSHIP, PERSONAL GROWTH AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES OF THE CORPSMEMBERS WHILE PROTECTING AND ENCHANCING CALIFORNIA'S NATURAL RESOURCES.
TO SUPPORT THE PROGRAMS AND CORPSMEMBERS OF THE CALIFORNA CONSERVATION CORPS THROUGH PHILANTHROPY.
ENHANCE THE EDUCATION, TRAINING AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS OF THE CORPSMEMBERS THROUGH THE REQUIRED ADVANCEMENT OF THEIR EDUCATION AND THROUGH SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL TRAINING, COLLEGE AND ON-THE-JOB TRAINING. CORPS MEMBERS LEARN PERSONAL AND CIVIC RESPONSIBILTIES AND RECEIVE LEADERSHIP TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH CORPSMEMBER ADVISORY BOARDS (CAB). WE SUPPORTED RETURNED VETERANS FROM IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN IN A CCC PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES VETERANS A TRANSITION FROM MILITARY SERVICE TO CIVLIAN LIFE AND WORKFORCE. CCCF IS ALSO THE PRIMARY SPONSOR OF A WEEK-LONG CONFERENCE THAT PROVIDES WORKSHOPS IN LEADERSHIP, CRITICAL THINKING, CIVICS, HOW TO RUN A CAB MEETING AND HOW TO EXCEL WITH DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE.
DIVERSITY PROGRAMS: THE FOUNDATION CONTINUES ITS EFFORTS TO INCREASE DIVERSITY IN THE CALIF CONSERVATION CORPS AND IN NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGMENT. PART OF THESE EFFORTS INCLUDE THE WOMEN IN THE WILDERNESS (WIW) PROGRAM. WOMEN OF COLOR ARE THE MOST UNDERREPRESENTED DEMOGRAPHIC IN THE CCC AND IN NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT. PERSONS OF COLOR CAN'T BE EXPECTED TO HAVE AN INVESTMENT IN THE NATIONAL PARKS IF THEY HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED THE PARKS FIRST HAND. WOMEN OF COLOR AGES 18-25 ARE THE TARGET POPULATION IN THIS PROGRAM. THIS IS AN EASILY REPLICATED MODEL FOR ANY NATIONAL PARK OR FOREST. IT HELPS SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND IT CREATES FUTURE STEWARDS OF THE ENVIRONMENT FROM AN UNDER REPRESENTED GROUP. THE PROGRAM INCLUDES 8-DAY BACKPACKING TRIPS. PRIOR TO THE START OF THE TRIP, THE PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE A PRIMER CLASS IN BACKPACKING AND ARE PROVIDED WITH ALL OF THE EQUIPMENT NECESAARY FOR THE TRIP. PARTICIPANTS SET UP AND BREAK DOWN THEIR CAMP AND ARE TAUGHT HOW EVERYTHING WORKS AND BEST PRACTICES. EACH DAY COMBINES PROJECT WORK, SUCH AS INVASIVE PLANT REMOVAL OR TRAIL WORK, WITH INSTRUCTION IN THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO DO THE WORK. PARTICIPANTS ALSO RECEIVE DAILY CURRICULUM, SUCH AS PATHWAYS TO CAREERS IN THE NPS, ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES, AND PLANT IDENTIFICATION TO NAME A FEW. THE HANDS-ON WORK CONNECTS THE PARTICIPANTS TO THE WILDERNESS AND IS THE BASIS FOR STEWARDSHIP. THE INTENTION IS TO DELIVER, AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE IN 8 DAYS, THE TRANFORMATIONAL OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE OF THE CCC BACKCOUNTRY TRAILS PROGRAM, ALBEIT A GREATLY DOWNSIZED VERSION, AND PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHALLENGES THAT LEAD TO A SPIRITUAL ENGAGEMENT WITH THE WILDERNESS.
CCC SUPPORT: THE FOUNDATION CONTINUES TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO THE CALIF CONSERVATION CORPS TO CONSERVE THE ENVIRONMENT. OVER THE YEARS, THESE TASKS HAVE INCLUDED PLANTING 21 MILLION TREES, CONSTRUCTING OR REPAIRING 9,800 MILES OF BACKCOUNTRY TRAILS, IMPROVING 1,800 MILES OF SALMON AND STEELHEAD HABITAT, 12 MILLION HOURS OF BUILDING OR IMPROVING PARKS AS WELL AS AUDITING AND RETROFITTING 25 MILLION SQUARE FEET OF PARK BUILDINGS FOR ENERGY SAVING. DURING 2019, THE FOUNDATION ALSO PROVIDED THREE BOBCAT SKID-LOADERS TO THREE CCC DISTRICTS AS PART OF A FIRE PROTECTION PROGRAM.
