THE CENTRAL COAST AGRICULTURAL WATER QUALITY COALITION REPRESENTS THE AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITY IN THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF VOLUNTARY, COST-EFFECTIVE, PRODUCER-DIRECTED PROGRAMS TO PROTECT WATER QUALITY IN THE CALIFORNIA CENTRAL COAST WATERSHED.
Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency (PVWMA) Coordinated with technical providers to provide irrigation efficiency services to growers in the Pajaro Valley. Participated in the Community Water Dialogue planning committee and served as a liaison to this group and the PVWMA. Began to implement a Conservation program per the Basin Management Plan Update 2012. Coordinated with stakeholders and technical experts to develop a pilot program to accomplish agricultural water conservation goals.
Office of Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers Coordinated meetings with a Technical Advisory Committee to establish best implementation strategies and to advance outreach and technical support initiatives for this community. Identified several part-time Cantonese-English translators from within the grower community and investigated options for establishing a permanent position to provide outreach and translation services to this community. Held three workshops to provide education and assistance with water quality regulatory compliance. Each workshop was attended by between 10-50 people. In partnership with University of Ca., held two workshops on integrated pest management strategies. Each workshop was attended by about 60 people. Completed a needs assessment with agencies, technical providers and growers in this community. Submitted grant applications to CDFA and USDA for further work with this community. Processed invoices and reporting to facilitate closure of the grant.
RCD Prop 50Work performed under subcontract to Resource Conservation District of Santa Cruz County Performed outreach and completed irrigation efficiency evaluations and project implementation with 8 growers to advance RCDSCC toward their grant deliverables. Coordinated 2 education workshops for growers.
