Organizations Filed Purposes:
Provide within available resources safe, caring, and healthy living situations for neglected, abused, abandoned and otherwise homeless animals in the greater Nevada City/Grass Valley area and surrounding counties, including Sacramento County and throughout northern California.
Our Sanctuary Program was created to care for our adopted out dogs that returned to us with no good options for them to be rehomed. Some were too old and some sick but not terminal. Scooter's has as a conditionof adoption that adopters find good safe places to care for their dogs should they no long be able to. Most comply with that contract provision but some do not and those animals need a soft landing place at the end of their life span. We, while continuing to look for alternative owners and homes for these returning dogs, provide a Sanctuary place for them.
Scooter's Pals rescues about 300 dogs from high kill shelters every year in northern California and helps re-home between one and two hundred more. Due to our efforts to find alternative homes, many animals do not reach the shelters. We fully vet all our animals (vaccinate, spay or neuter, microchip, and heart worm test and provide monthly heart worm preventative medicine) and home check fosters and adopters so their safety is assured.Our Sanctuary Program was created to care for our adopted out dogs that returned to us with no good options for them to be rehomed.
