Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE MISSION OF THE SOUTHWEST SPORTS WELLNESS FOUNDATION IS TO PROVIDE YOUNG ATHLETES AND MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS WITH ACCESS TO PROGRAMS AND FACILITIES WHICH SUPPORT AND PROMOTE EDUCATIONAL AND ATHLETIC GOALS THROUGH PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENTAL TRAINING PROGRAMS. THE FOUNDATION IS COMMITTED TO INSTILLING THE VALUE OF HARD WORK AND PERSEVERANCE THROUGH GOAL SETTING AND TO CREATING SELF-ESTEEM THROUGH THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THOSE GOALS.THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES YOUNG ATHLETES WITH ACCESS TO INJURY PREVENTION, INJURY TREATMENT RESOURCES AND SPORTS SPECIFIC SKILL TRAINING, AS WELL AS PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE FOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS.
TO PROVIDE STUDENT ATHLETES WITH FREE INJURY CLINICS EVERY SATURDAY DURING THE FALL SPORTS SEASON, WHICH GENERALLY RUNS FROM LATE AUGUST UNTIL EARLY NOVEMBER AND DURING THE SPRING SPORTS SEASON WHICH GENERALLY RUN FROM EARLY FEBRUARY UNTIL LATE MARCH. DURING THE CLINICS A PHYSICIAN OR PHYSICAL THERAPIST EXAMS THE STUDENT WHO MIGHT HAVE BEEN INJURED EITHER DURING A GAME OR PRACTICE. TO ACCOMPLISH THESE OBJECTIVES DURING 2019, ON A TYPICAL SATURDAY MORNING AND VARIOUS WEEKDAYS, AN AVERAGE OF 25 STUDENTS ARE SEEN BY THE VOLUNTEERS AND IF NECESSARY, THE STUDENTS RECEIVE X-RAYS OR PHYSICAL THERAPY AND REFERRED TO A PHYSICIAN OR PHYSICAL THERAPIST FOR FOLLOW-UP EXAM AND/OR TREATMENT. A TOTAL OF APPROXIMATELY SIX HUNDRED,FIFTY-EIGHT(658)STUDENT ATHLETES PARTICIPATED IN THE CLINICS.
TO SUPPORT STUDENT-ATHLETES WITH ACCESS TO PRE-PARTICIPATION SCREENING EXAMS FOR EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND CLEARANCE TO PARTICIPATE IN CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES IN SUHSD, AND ACCESS TO PHYSICAL THERAPY CARE FOR REHABILITATION. TO ACCOMPLISH THESE OBJECTIVES DURING 2019, THE FOUNDATION UNDERWROTE THE PRE-PARTICIPATION SCREENING EXAMS FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO HUNDRED AND NINE (209) STUDENT-ATHLETES AND FUNDED REHABILITATION PT CLINICS FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY (350) APPOINTMENTS/ PT SESSIONS.
TO PROVIDE FELLOWSHIPS FOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS INTERESTED IN SPECIALTY TRAINING IN SPORTS MEDICINE AND SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDIES LEADING TO CAREERS IN SPORTS MEDICINE FOR STUDENTS AND HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS WHO DEMONSTRATE INTEREST IN THE FIELD, SHOW PROMISE IN BEING ABLE TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY AND HAVE A FINANCIAL NEED. TO ACCOMPLISH THESE OBJECTIVES DURING 2019,THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED A TOTAL OF ELEVEN(11)SCHOLARSHIPS TO GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WHOM THEIR TEACHERS/COUNSELORS RECOMMENDED.
