THEY PROVIDE ONE-ON-ONE COUNSELING COVERING MONEY MANAGEMENT, DEBT REDUCTION, CREDIT SCORE IMPROVEMENT, STUDENT LOAN REPAYMENT, AND PREPARING FOR HOMEOWNERSHIP. THE COUNSELING SESSIONS CAN HAPPEN ON THE PHONE OR VIA CHAT, EMAIL, AND CLASSROOM SETTING. IN 2019, WE PROVIDED FINANCIAL FITNESS COUNSELING AND/OR DEBT MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO 88,702 CLIENTS. THROUGH OUR PRIVATE-LABEL WEBSITES, CONSUMERS HAVE COMPLETED 54,452 ONLINE LEARNING MODULES. THE BALANCE STAFF ALSO CONDUCTED 268 FINANCIAL FITNESS WORKSHOPS AND WEBINARS THAT ATTRACTED 7,713 ATTENDEES!
SMART MONEY COACHING SMART MONEY COACHING IS A 1:1 BALANCE COUNSELING PROGRAM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SAN FRANCISCO OFFICE OF FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT. THE PURPOSE IS TO STRENGTHEN THE ECONOMIC SECURITY AND MOBILITY OF LOW INCOME SAN FRANCISCANS. FUNDING COMES FROM CITY DEPARTMENTS THAT ENABLE US TO REACH UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES BY INTERWEAVING PROGRAM REFERRALS THROUGH AN EXISTING SERVICE DELIVERY WITH THE HUMAN SERVICES AGENCY, HOUSING AUTHORITY, AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT. COACHING IS AVAILABLE TO ANYONE LIVING, WORKING, OR RECEIVING SERVICES IN SAN FRANCISCO. BALANCE CURRENTLY HAS 16 ACTIVE SMART MONEY COACHING SITES (PARTNER CBOS). COACHING IS OFFERED AS A SOLUTION TO HELP REMOVE BARRIERS TO ACCESSING OPPORTUNITIES, ACCESS SAFE AND AFFORDABLE BANKING, ESTABLISH EMERGENCY SAVINGS TO BETTER COPE WITH FINANCIAL SHOCKS, REDUCE DEBT, AND STABILIZE HOUSING. IN 2019, THE SMART MONEY COACHING PROGRAM SERVICES 767 CLIENTS AND 381 OF THEM COMPLETED MORE THAN ONE APPOINTMENT, FOR 1,618 APPOINTMENTS, TOTAL. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, CLIENTS SAW AN AVERAGE INCREASE IN INCOME AVERAGING $16,440 AND A CREDIT SCORE IMPROVEMENT OF 65 POINTS, ON AVERAGE.
HOUSING - THE BALANCE HOUSING DEPARTMENT COVERS THE ENTIRE RANGE OF HOUSING COUNSELING OPTIONS, INCLUDING RENTAL, PRE-PURCHASE, POST-PURCHASE, FORECLOSURE PREVENTION, AND REVERSE MORTGAGE COUNSELING. THROUGH COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS, WE ARE ABLE TO OFFER HUD-APPROVED HOUSING EDUCATION AND COUNSELING TO MANY. IN 2019, WE PROVIDED HOUSING COUNSELING TO 11,952 CONSUMERS, 4,164 OF THOSE CONSUMERS WERE IN DANGER OF LOSING THEIR HOME TO FORECLOSURE AND AVOIDED IT. IN 2019, 594 CLIENTS STARTED THE HOMEOWNERSHIP EDUCATION PROCESS AND 26 OF THEM BECAME HOMEOWNERS. IN ADDITION, BALANCE IS A NATIONAL HUD APPROVED INTERMEDIARY WITH 13 AFFILIATES NATIONWIDE.
