Organizations Filed Purposes: MONUMENT IMPACTS MISSION IS TO ACTIVELY ENGAGE RESIDENTS IN TRAINING AND TOOLS THAT PROMOTE ECONOMIC SELF-SUFFICIENCY, HEALTH AND SAFETY, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS, AND LIFELONG LEARNING.

The mission of Monument Impact is to ensure that immigrants, refugees and low income residents in Concord and surrounding communities have the voice, tools and relationships for an equitable share of the social and economic wealth in our region.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:In 2019, in response to the housing crisis and the significant numbers of community members who were receiving egregious rent increases or no cause eviction notices, we began to co-host monthly Tenants Clinics to provide pro bono legal support for Concord tenants. After advocating unsuccessfully for tenant protections in Concord, we focused on state housing bills, including AB 1482, which passed and mandates a rent cap of 5% plus CPI and Just Cause for Eviction. We also hired a Community Organizing Manager who started in January 2020.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT: A one-year CPUC grant enabled Monument Impact to dramatically increase our Technology programming, adding evening and weekend classes and more than doubling the number of community members served. We have applied for a continuation of the program, and, if funded, would start in summer 2020. We also offered our first classes in Farsi to members of the Afghan community. Graduates of our advanced technology program averaged at $17/hour in their jobs in 2019.

HEALTHY COMMUNITY: We expanded our Mental Health program, Mentes Positivas en Accin to East Contra Costa where we served 55 local residents in five classes held in Pittsburg and Antioch. Participation in Monument Moves grew and we added two Diabetes Workshops in partnership with John Muir Health.
