PROVIDES PROGRAMS AND EVALUATIONS FOR EDUCATIONAL PROJECTS PRINCIPALLY FOR GOVERNMENTAL AND QUASI-GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES
EIR RURAL UPSTART: THE EVALUATION AND TRAINING INSTITUTE (ETI) WAS CONTRACTED TO CONDUCT A STUDY OF AN EARLY LITERACY PROGRAM SUPPORTED BY A GRANT FROM THE OFFICE OF INNOVATION AND IMPROVEMENT IN THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. ETI WILL CONDUCT A FIVE-YEAR PRESECHOOL EVALUATION (2019-2024) STARTING WITH IDAHO, NORTH DAKOTA, AND WYOMING IN SUMMER 2019 AND BEGINNING IN SOUTH DAKOTA AND MONTANA IN SUMMER 2020. PARTICIPATING CHILDREN WILL COMPLETE A SCHOOL READINESS ASSESSMENT THAT COVERS AREAS SUCH AS LETTER AND WORD RECOGNITION, READING COMPREHENSION, AND PHONOLOGICAL PROCESSING. ETI WILL PRESENT THE FINDINGS TO A NATIONAL AUDIENCE OF EARLY LITERACY EXPERTS, EDUCATORS AND PARENTS SEEKING TO IMPROVE CHILDREN'S'SCHOOL READINESS AT ENTRACE INTO KINDERGARTEN.
UTAH STATE UPSTART PROGRAM EVALUATIONETI was contracted by the state of Utah to evaluate the UPSTART program, a computer-based preschool program that teaches children literacy skills. The evaluation consisted of: (1) evaluating the programs effectiveness preparing children academically for success in school Utah State UPSTART Program Evaluation; and (2) testing the feasibility of scaling such a program to all preschool children in Utah. ETI compared outcomes for a group of children that experienced the UPSTART program with a group of children that had not experienced the early intervention program. A final report was written and submitted to the state of Utah including findings and recommendations. This evaluation was extended for an additional 4 years.
MISSISSIPPI UPSTART: ETI was contracted to determine the impacts of the Mississippi UPSTART program (MSUP) on childrens literacy skill development. Based on a randomized-control trial research design, ETI will use data collected by MSUP providers to determine how the UPSTART Reading program impacted students randomly assigned to the treatment condition across a variety of early literacy outcomes when compared to a group of students randomly assigned to the UPSTART Math/Science program. The study will determine the program impacts in at preschool and at kindergarten. Our focus will be on literacy as a prime indicator of school readiness, but we will also study math outcomes, such as early numeracy and social-emotional development outcomes.
