WE ACHIEVE OUR MISSION BY (1) PROVIDING AFFORDABLE AND HIGH QUALITY MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES THROUGH OUR MENTAL HEALTH CLINIC AND SUPPORT GROUPS, AS WELL AS SCHOOL BASED COUNSELING (2) REDUCING THE INCIDENCE OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE THROUGH PREVENTION AND RECOVERY SERVICES (3) PROMOTING FAMILY BONDING THROUGH CREATING LASTING FAMILY CONNECTIONS.
DISCOVERY COUNSELING CENTERS MISSION IS TO BE THE COMMUNITYS LEADER IN MENTAL WELLNESS BY PROVIDING AFFORDABLE, HIGH QUALITY AND ACCESSIBLE COUNSELING SERVICES AND PROGRAMS, OFFERING EXCELLENT AND HIGHLY-REGARDED TRAINING FOR FUTURE MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, CREATING GREATER AWARENESS OF THE PREVALENCE OF MENTAL WELLNESS ISSUES IN OUR COMMUNITY AND THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY TREATMENT, SERVING AS THE COMMUNITYS ADVOCATE IN SECURING ADEQUATE FUNDING AND RESOURCES FOR THE TREATMENT OF MENTAL WELLNESS ISSUES.
THE CENTER PROVIDES COUNSELING TO INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES AND COUPLES FOR A VARIETY OF ISSUES AFFECTING YOU, INCLUDING ANXIETY DISORDERS, EATING DISORDERS, GRIEF AND LOSS ISSUES, MOOD DISORDERS, PROBLEMS RELATED TO ABUSE OR NEGLECT, PARENTING ISSUES, RELATIONSHIP PROBLEMS, SUBSTANCE RELATED DISORDERS, ATTENTION-DEFICIT AND DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR DISORDERS.
PROJECT EMPOWHER/GUY'D TO GREATNESS - A MONTHLY WORKSHOP IS OFFERED FOR STUDENTS IN THE 4TH AND 5TH GRADE IN THE SAN RAMON VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT TO HELP THEM DEAL WITH ISSUES OF BULLYING AND OTHER HURTFUL BEHAVIOR. IN WORKSHOPS SEPARATED BY SEX, STUDENTS ARE GIVEN ALTERNATIVES FOR MORE POSITIVE BEHAVIORS. GIRLS ARE GUIDED TO UNDERSTAND RELATIONAL AGGRESSION AND HOW TO AVOID USING THEIR RELATIONSHIPS TO HURT EACH OTHER AND BOYS WORK ON ISSUES INVOLVING COMPETITIVE AND AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR.
ALCOHOL & DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION TEAM OF THE SAN RAMON VALLEY HAS ASSEMBLED A COALITION OF COMMUNITY LEADERS TO REDUCE UNDERAGE DRINKING AND YOUTH ACCESS TO ALCOHOL AND DRUGS AND TO CREATE A HEALTHY AND SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR YOUTH IN THE SAN RAMON VALLEY. THE COALITION FOCUSES ON CHANGING THE ENVIRONMENT IN WAYS THAT MAKE ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS LESS AVAILABLE AND APPEARLING TO YOU PEOPLE. SOME GOALS OF ENVIRONMENTAL PREVENTION ARE TO CHANGE SOCIAL NORMS OR ATTITUDES RELATING TO THE USE OF ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS, TO CONTROL THE AVAILABILITY AND TO STRENGTHEN ENFORCEMENT OF LAWS AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING ITS USE.
