Organizations Filed Purposes: CalSAC is building a future where every child in California regardless of income, race, or zip code has access to high quality, affordable out-of-school time programs.

CalSAC helps build an out-of-school time workforce (such as before school, afterschool and summer learning) that is filled with strong mentors and highly skilled practitioners who reflect the communities they serve.Through collaboration and innovation, our network creates ripple effects of opportunity, equity and transformation throughout California, both for professionals and the young people they serve.

Training: Developing the skills and capacity of youth development professionals - The Trainer Network provides a diverse array of experiential interactive n-person and online trainings that build the knowledge and confidence of out-of-school time professionals at all levels. CalSAC selected 68 professionals to join the statewide network of trainers where they worked to complete a 50-hour training certification, which included a three-day intensive retreat. In partnership with the California Academy of Sciences, CalSAC also recruited 120 program sites to coordinate the Science Action Club for middle schools and provided 445 hours of technical assistance. In addition, CalSAC provided 76 hours of training on mental health and wellness curriculum to 621 professionals.

Quality Counts - CalSAC provided fiscal management services for Alameda County for various professional development and retention programs. Through the Alameda County AB212 project, CalSAC supported participation of 28 agencies who enrolled 897 individuals staff in the project. Nearly 14,500 hours of professional development were completed.

Advocacy, Community Building and Outreach: Building a base of educated citizens influencing policy and driving change - CalSAC is committed in empowering those closest to the work to engage in local, ongoing, grassroots advocacy through training, organizing and community building. Although our annual event, California After-school & Summer Challenge, was canceled due to the pandemic, 316 professionals, youth, and families registered to participate in training, a rally at the Capitol and legislative visits. CalSAC also has 5 active chapters that hold trainings, networking events, and participated in various conferences and community meetings.In addition, CalSAC collaborated with four other intermediary partners for the Strategic Alliance Initiative in order to support the out-of-school time field toward a more sustainable and equity-driven approach to achieving a shared vision.
