TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN NORTH SAN DIEGO COUNTY BY DIRECTING PHILANTHROPIC EFFORTS TOWARD COMMUNITY NEEDS
TO help individuals and families meet their charitable goals; make grants to support nonprofit programs, education and community needs; provide support and training for nonprofits
Donor advised fund grants Donors make recommendations to the Foundation for grant distributions from their funds. Grants are approved by the Board of Directors. Grants support a wide variety of nonprofits locally, regionally and nationally.In 2019, 124 donor advised fund grants were made.
Field of interest grants Grant awards are made in a variety of interest areas. Formal grant programs include:1. Hand to Hand for programs that empower change and self-sufficiency for women and girls in San Diego County. 2. Mental health grants for programs and services focus on mental health intervention and counseling services for youth. 3. Solana Beach Fund grants are made for programs and projects build stronger nonprofits, help neighborhoods and families and ensure a vibrant culture in Solana Beach. 4. Encinitas Fund grants provide support for nonprofit programs and community projects for Encinitas and all of its neighborhoods.5. The Homeless and Housing Recovery Fund provides grants to nonprofit programs and services that address housing needs and the continuum of care for residents.
Education and Scholarships Education grants are made for technical and career training programs in North Coastal high schools. Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors from San Dieguito, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Scripps Ranch and Vista high schools and to students who qualify for renewal scholarships. Scholarships and education grants represented approximately 27% of the total grants made in 2019. 45 scholarships were awarded.
