Continued work in Uganda on our community of homes for orphans: Purchase of 103 acres in Bukomero completed for our orphan care community; construction of a joint staff housing and barn structure started, completion was in 2020; cleared 30 acres of the new land for crops and construction; purchased a used Nissan truck, added rack and hitch; purchased a $3,500 diamond tipped rock bit for the drill to assist with drilling through rock. Drilled 5 wells; bought a soil block-pressing machine from Makiga Technologies to facilitate making the bricks needed for construction. This machine uses a combination of local soil, sand and cement to make bricks without needing to be fired, eliminating all pollution and greenhouse gasses associated with traditional brick making; planted 13 acres of our new land and successfully harvested corn and cassava; Eight members of our board traveled to Uganda in 2019 bringing an additional 18 individuals with them on these trips, all covering their own travel expenses. Collective they spent almost 400 total days in Uganda; Days for Girls menstrual kits were distributed to 250 local teenage girls with 1/2 day training sessions.
