Food For Thoughts mission is to foster health and healing with food and compassion. We provide over 5,000 healthy meals per week to Sonoma County residents affected by serious illnesses.
Food For Thought: healing with food + loveFood For Thought provides healing food and nutrition to people affected by serious illnesses in Sonoma County. We offer life-sustaining services at no charge to qualified clients who are at risk of malnutrition. Our programs include the following:HIV Nutrition Program: Food For Thought provides groceries and comprehensive nutrition services free of charge to approximately 500 Sonoma County residents living with HIV.Welcome Home Nutrition Program: Any Sonoma County resident discharged from a hospital or care facility and is at risk of malnutrition is eligible for three months of our comprehensive nutrition services free of charge.
Medically Tailored Meals Pilot Study: A partnership with five other agencies throughout California, this program provides Medi-Cal patients with congestive heart failure healthy meals to reduce rehospitalizations and health care expenses.Childrens Pantry: Through this program, we provide nutritious food and fresh produce free of charge to the dependent children of the clients of our HIV and Welcome Home programs. Bags of Love: Food For Thought volunteers prepare approximately 100 grocery bags per month with ready-to-eat food that doesnt require cooking or refrigeration. We partner with local healthcare and HIV agencies who distribute the bags directly to homeless individuals free of charge. Each bag contains 12 meals worth of calories. This program is projected to grow substantially in 2020.
Food For Thoughts life-sustaining services are available at no charge to qualified clients, most of whom are low income; 10 percent are homeless. The amount of prepared food and fresh groceries we distribute equates to 300,000 meals per year. Food For Thought services eliminate food insecurity, reduce hospital visits and medical expenses, and improve our clients health and quality of life. With the dedication and compassion of more than 550 volunteers, Food For Thought is proud to be known as the Sonoma County agency that heals with food + love.
