Organizations Filed Purposes: PROVIDE FOR SOCIAL, CULTURAL, RECREATIONAL, EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF THE PENINSULA JEWISH COMMUNITY

HEALTH & FITNESS: THE HEALTH & FITNESS DEPARTMENT CONSISTS OF THE BYER ATHLETIC CENTER, WHICH INCLUDES A FULL COURT GYMNASIUM, INDOOR, OUTDOOR AND KIDDIE POOLS, JACUZZI, SAUNA AND STEAM, GROUP EXERCISE STUDIO, YOGA STUDIO AND TWO ROOMS OF CARDIOVASCULAR AND WEIGHT TRAINING EQUIPMENT. IT OFFERS A FULL COMPLIMENT OF GROUP EXERCISE AND AQUATICS PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS SPECIALIZED PERSONAL TRAINING, PILATES, MASSAGE AND SPA SERVICES. THESE PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE TO OVER 9,000 MEMBERS.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION: THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 285 CHILDREN IN PROGRAMS THAT OPERATE FROM 7:30 A.M. - 6:00 P.M. ALTHOUGH THE CHILDREN MAY BE THE PRIMARY CLIENTS, THERE ARE OFFERINGS FOR BOTH SOCIAL PROGRAMS AND PARENTING CLASSES FOR ADULTS. PROGRAMS INCLUDE CLASSES FOR INFANTS AND THEIR PARENTS (6 - 18 MONTHS), TODDLERS (18 MONTHS - 2 YEARS), PRESCHOOL (2 - 5 YEARS) AND SPECIAL PRE-KINDERGARTEN (5 YEARS). DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS, A DAY CAMP EXPERIENCE IS OFFERED FOR CHILDREN 2 - 5 YEARS OF AGE. THE CAMP PROGRAM OFFERS A FULL RANGE OF ACTIVITIES INCLUDING SWIMMING, ARTS AND CRAFTS AND MUSIC. CHILDCARE IS AVAILABLE BEFORE AND AFTER CAMP. APPROXIMATELY 150 CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN CAMP, WHICH IS AMERICAN CAMPING ASSOCIATION ACCREDITED.

ENCOMPASSING THE YOUTH, TEEN, FAMILY AND DAY CAMP DEPARTMENTS: 1,000 CHILDREN BETWEEN KINDERGARTEN AND JUNIOR HIGH AGE WERE SERVED. 560 CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN A SUMMER DAY CAMP PROGRAM ACCREDITED BY THE AMERICAN CAMPING ASSOCIATION. THE CAMP PROGRAM OFFERS A FULL RANGE OF OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES. AN ADDITIONAL 124 SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN VACATION (NONSUMMER) CAMPS. ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-FIVE CHILDREN PARTICIPATE IN A STRUCTURED AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM.FAMILY DEPARTMENT, IN COOPERATION WITH THE JEWISH LIFE DEPARTMENT, SPONSORS HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS AND FAMILY EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THE DEPARTMENT ALSO PROVIDES HEBREW LANGUAGE PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN,PARTICULARLY THOSE ISRAELI FAMILIES.
