Organizations Filed Purposes: LARC offers permanent sanctuary to rescued wolves, wolfdogs, foxes, coyotes, parrots, pigs, horses, and dogs. LARC is also a work therapy program for disabled veterans with war-related trauma which is called our Warriors and Wolves program. These veterans work with similarly traumatized, rescued animals who reside at our sanctuary. The unique relationship that develops is immensely therapeutic for both species. Employment at LARC allows the veterans a transitional period to regain their confidence and learn valuable skills for future permanent employment. These veterans also go into the wilderness to protect wild wolves as part of our WolfGuard program.

Lockwood Animal Rescue Center LARC rescues wolves, wolfdogs, horses, and other animals and provides permanent lifetime sanctuary to many of those rescued. Another keystone program of our organization is that we provide employment for disabled and/or formerly homeless combat veterans suffering from trauma in an eco-therapeutic environment as they care for the rescued animals and learn valuable job skills. In addition, the unique relationships that develop between the wolves and the veterans have proven to be therapeutic for both species.

In 2019, the Lockwood Animal Rescue Center LARC rescued several wolves and wolfdogs. One wolfdog came from the Monterey Shelter another from the Contra Costa shelter ? both were designated for euthanasia but a thoughtful shelter worker reached out to LARC and we went immediately to rescue them. They now live with two of our female wolfodgs who had recently lost their mates. LARC also rescued three wolves who were confiscated by CA Fish and Wildlife dogs in Northern California and another wolf who was driven in from Baja, Mexico due to severe fur loss. He was nearly fully without fur but within months we had his fur growing back. LARC built several new enclosures to accommodate these animals and they are all living in small packs of one male and one female. The Animal Planet docu-series on LARC called Wolves and Warriors was -re-broadcast and many thousands of people saw it throughout the world. Fans have contacted us from New Zealand, Australia, England, South Africa, and Germany. In addition, LARC saw the return of three former veterans who worked for us in the past and they join our other veterans in this back to nature healing environment. We also hired a wildlife biologist and a Program Coordinator with a grant from DAV Charitable Services Trust.
