PROVIDED FUNDING THROUGH VARIOUS GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS AND GRANTS, SUCH AS WORK FORCE INVESTMENT ACT, CALWORKS, COMMUNITY BLOCK DEVELOPMENT GRANTS, AND AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO PROVIDE VARIOUS SUPPORT AND TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR DISADVANTAGED YOUTH.We would like to share a success story featuring our youth.During the past few years, GYA has been serving more and more homeless youth with training and employment services. Due to the lack of housing resources available in our community for transitional aged youth, GYA applied and received grant funding through the City of Glendale Homeless Services to provide hotel vouchers and rent subsidies for homeless youth. Zoe is a 24-year-old young lady who had been living in a tent in Echo Park for over a year. She and her boyfriend were referred to GYA program for services. GYA Case manager worked closely with Zoe along with several community agencies to get her the resources needed. Housing youth who do not have jobs has been a major problem, since owners and management companies do not lease property to anyone who doesnt have stable income. Zoe and her boyfriend only receive General Relief benefits which is less than $300 per month. They have not been able to get jobs through temp agencies in the last few months due to the COVID pandemic. Zoe and her boyfriend were referred to the PV Jobs program and Zoe is now enrolled in the hospitality training program and her boyfriend has been enrolled in the construction program. While they are going through the training programs, GYA will be assisting with housing and will be able to provide 12 months of rental subsidies along with case management to get them on the path of self-sufficiency.
