SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK'S MISSION IS TO END HUNGER IN ORANGE COUNTY. FOR 37+ YEARS WE HAVE SERVED AS THE CRUICAL LINK BETWEEN FOOD SUPPLIERS, OTHER DONORS, AND OUR MEMBER AGENCIES WHO HELP US FEED MORE THAN 300,000 PEOPLE WHO MAY NOT HAVE ENOUGH FOOD FOR THEIR NEXT MEAL.

SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK HAS BEEN FEEDING ORANGE COUNTY'S MOST VULNERABLE POPULATIONS INCLUDING CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES, SENIORS ON FIXED INCOMES, VETERANS, PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND THOSE WITHOUT HOMES SINCE 1983.SECOND HARVEST PROVIDED PURCHASED AND DONATED FOOD TO MORE THAN 300 NON-PROFIT PARTNERS INCLUDING PANTRIES AT HOUSES OF WORSHIP AND SCHOOLS, AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS, SENIOR CENTERS AND LOW-INCOME SENIOR HOUSING COMMUNITIES, TRANSITIONAL HOUSING, HOMELESS SHELTERS, AND SOUP KITCHENS. IN FY2020 SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK DISTRIBUTED 50.6 MILLION POUNDS OF NUTRITIOUS FOOD TO AN AVERAGE OF 343,822 PEOPLE PER MONTH, HELPING THEM ON THEIR JOURNEY TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY. OUR CHILD HUNGER STRATEGY SEEKS TO END HUNGER FOR MANY THOUSANDS OF FOOD-INSECURE CHILDREN. MEALS AND SNACKS (PLUS NUTRITION EDUCATION) ARE PROVIDED THROUGH A NETWORK OF KIDS CAFE AFTER-SCHOOL SITES AND SUMMER MEAL DISTRIBUTIONS. OUR PERMANENT AND MOBILE SCHOOL PANTRY PROGRAMS DISTRIBUTED THOUSANDS OF POUNDS OF FRESH PRODUCE AND NUTRITION-FOCUSED SHELF-STABLE FOODS AT NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITY CENTERS IN UNDER-SERVED AREAS. SECOND HARVEST'S SENIOR GROCERY PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO COMBAT HUNGER AND MALNUTRITION FOR LOW-INCOME SENIORS. WE DISTRIBUTED GROCERIES TO MORE THAN 4,900 SENIOR HOUSEHOLDS AT SENIOR CENTERS AND LOW-INCOME SENIOR HOUSING LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY. WE ALSO PROVIDED NUTRITIOUS FRESH FOODS AND STAPLE ITEMS DIRECTLY TO FOOD INSECURE PEOPLE IN UNDER-SERVED AREAS THROUGHOUT ORANGE COUNTY WITH OUR MOBILE PANTRY AND SCHOOL PANTRY DELIVERIES. WE PROVIDED ONLINE APPLICATION ASSISTANCE FOR CALFRESH BENEFITS FOR QUALIFIED, FOOD-INSECURE INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN UNDERSERVED AREAS, ELIMINATING BARRIERS TO PARTICIPATION.SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK DEPENDS ON ITS GENEROUS AND DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS WHOSE WORK REPRESENTS 28% OF THE LABOR PERFORMED AT SECOND HARVEST.
