Organizations Filed Purposes: The mission of Fort Ross Conservancy is to promote for the benefit of the public the interpretive and educational activities of the Russian River Sector of California State Parks at Fort Ross State Historic Park and Salt Point State Park.

FRC connects people to the history and beauty of Fort Ross State Historic Park and Salt Point Park. We preserve and promote the complex legacies of the Native Kashia Pomo, Russian, Alaska Native, and early California ranchers who lived on these lands across centuries.

Outreach - FRC organizes our summer event, Fort Ross Festival, which brings thousands of visitors to our park to learn about our park's natural and cultural history. Fort Ross Dialogue is an independent forum where Americans and Russians meet in a constructive environment to encourage conversation and collaboration. FRC creates many events, including lectures, workshops, Alaska Native Day, Kashia Big Time, and Harvest Festival. FRC operates a bookshop and two visitor centers, and we fund three interpreters and a bilingual specialist to share their knowledge with our visitors.

FRC supports California State Parks in maintaining the cultural resources at our parks. We steward 9,400 acres from intertidal habitat to redwood groves; preserve 15 historic buildings and cultural features, staff two visitor centers, research and write books, pamphlets and interpretive panels, and engage over 300,000 visitors annually.

Youth Programming - FRCs Environmental Living Program, aligned with 4th and 5th grade California standards, provides hands-on learning to allow students to directly experience 19th century history and the diverse cultures at Settlement. Students, teachers, and chaperones role-play people who lived at Ross while working and sleeping inside the historic Fort Ross compound. Our Marine Ecology Program teaches students how to identify marine species and learn data collection, with the Sonoma coast as their classroom. We strive to make connections to past and present resource exploitation and to encourage students to focus on marine stewardship. FRCs Education Fund ensures that underserved students have access to our quality outdoor education. Our team is committed to making quality outdoor education available to all, and in 2018 we raised over $95,000 for the FRC Education Fund - a 900% increase from the prior year!
