California Wolf Center is dedicated to the return of wild wolves to their natural habitat and to the people who share the landscape with them. We foster communities coming together to ensure wolves, livestock, and people thrive in todays world.
RESEARCH: THE CENTER HOSTS AND CONDUCTS RESEARCH AT ITS 50-ACRE FACILITY IN JULIAN, CA. THE CENTER ALSO FUNDS RESEARCH IN THE WILD. THE GOAL OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO ENHANCE UNDERSTANDING OF WOLF BIOLOGY, ECOLOGY, AND BEHAVIOR AND TO SUPPORT ENDANGERED SPECIES RECOVERY.EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS: THE CALIFORNIA WOLF CENTER OFFERS A VARIETY OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS TO K-12 SCHOOL GROUPS, YOUTH AND SCOUT GROUPS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. IT ALSO OFFERS ACADEMIC INTERNSHIPS FOR STUDENTS INTERESTED IN LEARNING MORE ABOUT BIOLOGY AND ECOLOGY. THE GOAL OF ALL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS IS TO TEACH PEOPLE ABOUT WOLVES AND OTHER WILDLIFE AND TO FOSTER SUPPORT FOR CONSERVATION AND ENDANGERED SPECIES RECOVERY.
CONSERVATION PROGRAMS: THE CENTER IS THE 3RD LARGEST BREEDING AND HOST FACILITY FOR MEXICAN GRAY WOLVES IN THE UNITED STATES. THE CALIFORNIA WOLF CENTER'S PARTICIPATION IN THE MEXICAN WOLF SPECIES SURVIVAL PLAN DIRECTLY AIDS IN THE RECOVERY OF AN ENDANGERED SPECIES. THE ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO HELP CREATE A SELF-SUSTAINING WILD POPULATION WHILE PROVIDING HIGH QUALITY CARE FOR A CAPTIVE POPULATION.The Center supports conservation programs in Northern California where wolves are returning
