The Long Beach Playhouse was the City of Long Beach's first performing arts organization, having been organized in 1929. The Playhouse produces 13 plays each year with performances held 50 weeks out of the year. The plays are traditional, classic, contemporary, and new scripts. The Organization also conducts theatre education programs for children and adults, new works projects, visual art exhibitions, student internships, and benefit performances. The excellent quality of Playhouse productions is widely recognized throughout Southern California and both the Mainstage and Studio Theater consistently receive awards and critical acclaim. Season subscriptions are available for both theater.
