Organizations Filed Purposes: THE LOS ALTOS HISTORY MUSEUM GATHERS AND PRESENTS COMPELLING ARTIFACTS AND STORIES THAT BRIDGE THE PAST AND THE PRESENT BY FOSTERING THE CREATIVE ENERGY OF VOLUNTEERS AND STAFF TO CHALLENGE ESTABLISHED NARRATIVES THROUGH ENGAGING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND EXHIBITS FOR THE COMMUNITY.

THE LOS ALTOS HISTORY MUSEUM TURNED STRANGERS INTO NEIGHBORS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF OUR COMMUNITY, SERVING OVER 20,000 INDIVIDUALS IN FY 2018-2019.

THE LOS ALTOS HISTORY MUSEUM WELCOMED, FREE OF ADMISSION, OVER 8000 INDIVIDUALS TO OUR EXHIBITS, INCLUDING OUR PERMANENT EXHIBITION "CROWN OF THE PENINSULA" THAT DOCUMENTS CHANGE IN THIS AREA OVER THE LAST 1000 YEARS AND TO ALL OF OUR SPECIAL CHANGING EXHIBITS. FIVE ORIGINAL CHANGING EXHIBITIONS FOR FY 2018-2019 INCLUDING: "JUANA BRIONES: LA DONA DE LA FRONTERA" (A COMPLETELY IN-HOUSE CREATED, BILINGUAL SPANISH/ENGLISH EXHIBITION, FEATURING THE ART WORK OF LOCAL STUDENTS AND ORIGINAL ARTIFACTS); APRIL IN BLOOM (PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE TWO LOCAL GARDEN/FLORAL CLUBS); AND SILICON VALLEY EATS, WHICH DOCUMENTED HOW OUR FOOD WAYS HAVE BEEN TRANSFORMED BY TECHNOLOGY OVER THE LAST 150 YEARS. EXHIBITIONS IN OUR HISTORIC J. GILBERT SMITH HOUSE INCLUDED GADGETS GALORE, DISCUSSING EARLY 20TH CENTURY INVENTIONS FOR THE HOME, AND "WAKING THE VICTORIAN ERA", AN EXHIBIT ABOUT MOURNING RITUALS IN THE LATE 19TH AND EARLY 20TH CENTURY.

SPECIAL EVENTS SUCH AS LECTURES, SPECIAL TOURS, OPENING RECEPTIONS FOR EXHIBITIONS, AND CLASSES, AS WELL AS CELEBRATORY EVENTS FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS, BROUGHT TOGETHER OVER 9,000 INDIVIDUALS IN FY 2018-2019. THIS INCLUDES OUR POPULAR MEMBERSHIP EVENTS, INCLUDING CRAB FEED, CATCH THE SPIRIT, AND SUMMER MEMBERSHIP BARBECUE WITH OVER 200 ATTENDEES EACH. WE HELD TWO LARGE FAMILY-FRIENDLY FESTIVALS IN THIS PERIOD: TRAIN DAYS IN FALL 2018, FEATURING MODEL RAILROADS, BROUGHT IN OVER 3000 VISITORS, WHILE THE APRICOT STEM FAIR-WHICH COMBINED SCIENCE EDUCATION WITH THE CELEBRATION OF THE APRICOT HARVEST IN JUNE 2019-BROUGHT IN OVER 700 VISITORS. EXTERNAL RENTALS FOR COMMUNITY CELEBRATIONS SUCH AS WEDDINGS, MEMORIALS, AND CORPORATE EVENTS WELCOMED OVER 4,000 PEOPLE TO THE MUSEUM.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS ARE A CORNERSTONE PROGRAM THAT SERVES OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS BY GIVING THEM A MEMORABLE AND UNIQUE STORYTELLING EVENT AROUND THEIR LOCAL HISTORY. OVER 1,200 THIRD AND FOURTH GRADERS FROM LOS ALTOS AND LOS ALTOS HILLS VISITED THE MUSEUM IN FY 18-19. IN ADDITION, OVER 200 THIRD-SIXTH GRADERS PARTICIPATED IN OUR HISTORY ESSAY CONTEST, TIED TO THE EXHIBITION ABOUT JUANA BRIONES.
