Center for Asian Americans United for Self Empowerment CAUSE is a 501c3 nonprofit, nonpartisan, community-based organization with a mission to advance the political empowerment of the Asian Pacific American APA community through nonpartisan voter registration and education, community outreach, and leadership development. Founded in 1993, CAUSE is comprised of committed professional, business, community and political leaders, and has established itself as a unique nonpartisan APA organization dedicated solely to APA civic and political participation. Based in the Greater Los Angeles area, CAUSEs influence reaches throughout the nation.
The CAUSE Leadership Academy CLA was founded in 1991 in order to develop a pipeline of leadership for the Asian Pacific American APA community. CLA teaches students the importance of civic engagement and political participation and prepares its participants to be leaders at the forefront of the democratic process. Through exposure to decision-makers, policy makers, and the issues of the day, students gain a deeper awareness of the political issues facing the APA community in California and the nation. Graduates of this program have gone on to run for political office and have even become leaders in politics, business, and nonprofits.
Throughout the year, CAUSE conducts various voter registration, outreach, and education efforts in order to empower the APA community to be active political participants. By ensuring the community has a reliable means to register to vote and also be informed of the issues relevant to the community, CAUSE forms a network of motivated individuals ready to empower others to be civically engaged. CAUSE workshops, outreach programs, and materials also especially cater to limited English proficient voters requiring Asian in-language support.
LEADERSHIP COUNCIL & NETWORK - moves the Asian Pacific American APA community forward through education, networks, and advancement. The CAUSE Leadership Council serves as the governing body over the Network and provides the overarching strategy for the overall network. It is comprised of an even ratio of private, public, and nonprofit sector experience. The CAUSE Leadership Network is an invitation-only, membership program and platform for millennial leaders to channel skills, expertise and passion for the purpose of cross-sector advancement and the empowerment of APA communities. Through opportunities for key connections, knowledge-sharing, and dialogue, CLN is a space dedicated to the mutual advancement of emerging APA leaders across all sectors. CLN members are committed to creating space for and driving our collective APA community forward.
