Organizations Filed Purposes: CPAF'S MISSION IS TO BUILD HEALTHY AND SAFE COMMUNITIES BY ADDRESSING THE ROOT CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF FAMILY VIOLENCE AND VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN. CPAF IS COMMITTED TO MEETING THE SPECIFIC CULTURAL AND LANGUAGE NEEDS OF ASIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER WOMEN AND THEIR FAMILIES.

CULTURALLY GROUNDED INTERVEN- TION, PREVENTION & ENGAGEMENT TO END DOMESTIC & SEXUAL VIOLENCE

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS:CPAF OPERATES THE ONLY 24-HOUR ASIAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER (API)-LANGUAGE CRISIS HOTLINE FOR SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, AND THE ONLY RAPE CRISIS CENTER STATEWIDE TAILORED FOR API SURVIVORS. CALLERS RECEIVE IMMEDIATE CRISIS INTERVENTION SERVICES, INCLUDING SAFETY PLANNING, COUNSELING, AND REFERRALS TO MEDICAL, LEGAL AND OTHER SERVICES. CPAF RESPONDED TO 3,746 CONTACTS IN 22 API LANGUAGES/DIALECTS ON ITS HOTLINE, AN INCREASE OF 4.5%. CPAF PROVIDED CASE MANAGEMENT AND INDIVIDUAL/GROUP COUNSELING SERVICES TO 224 CLIENTS, A 22% INCREASE FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR. CPAF'S SHELTERS HAD TO ADJUST THEIR OPERATIONAL PLANS TO ACCOMMODATE CDC GUIDELINES FOR CONGREGATE LIVING SPACES, 'CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O LIMITING THE CAPACITY AVAILABLE FOR NEW SHELTER RESIDENTS. IN RESPONSE, CPAF INITIATED AN EMERGENCY HOUSING PROGRAM, SERVING 13 SINGLE SURVIVORS, 15 FAMILIES AND 24 CHILDREN. THIS PROGRAM PROVIDED SHORT-TERM ALTERNATIVE HOUSING STAYS, CASE MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORT TO MEET THE INCREASING NEEDS OF API SURVIVORS AS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ESCALATED DURING THE PANDEMIC. CPAF TRAINED 65 YOUTH TO BECOME PEER ADVOCATES AND CHANGE AGENTS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES TO PREVENT VIOLENCE. CPAF ALSO ORGANIZED ITS ANNUAL YOUTH FORUM, WITH MORE THAN 120 YOUTH FROM CALIFORNIA AND OUT OF STATE PARTICIPATING. THE YOUTH FORUM THEME "RISE UP, SPEAK UP, STEP UP" ALIGNED WITH THE BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT IN THE CONTEXT OF POLICE BRUTALITY AND RACIAL JUSTICE. THROUGH CULTURAL COMPETENCY WORKSHOPS AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT TRAININGS TO SERVICE PROVIDERS, COMMUNITY LEADERS, AND FAITH LEADERS WHO SERVE API FAMILIES CPAF REACHED APPROXIMATELY 9,152 PEOPLE THROUGH PRESENTATIONS, COMMUNITY EVENTS, MEDIA AND TRAINING WITH MANY OF THESE PROGRAMS SHIFTING TO VIRTUAL ACTIVITIES BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC. CPAF'S PARENTING WITH NONVIOLENCE PROGRAM TRAINED 32 FACILITATORS INCLUDING STAFF, PARTNER STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS TO WORK WITH PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS TO BREAK THE INTERGENERATIONAL CYCLES OF VIOLENCE BY ENSURING CHILDREN GROW UP WITH NURTURING CARETAKERS. VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE INVALUABLE SUPPORT TO CPAF PROGRAMS, AND CONTINUED THAT SUPPORT DURING THE PANDEMIC AS CPAF SHIFTED FROM IN-PERSON TO VIRTUAL VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES. EIGHTY-FIVE VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED A TOTAL OF 4,447 HOURS, INCLUDING PROVIDING CRISIS INTERVENTION ASSISTANCE ON CPAF'S MULTILINGUAL HOTLINE, ASSISTING MONOLINGUAL OR LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENT CLIENTS THROUGH PHONE OR VIRTUAL ONLINE INTERPRETATION, AND RECORDING ACTIVITIES FOR SHELTER CLIENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN ON TOPICS SUCH AS YOGA, BAKING, SCIENCE, AND ARTS AND CRAFTS.

SHELTER PROGRAMS EMERGENCY SHELTER:CPAF OPERATES THE ONLY EMERGENCY SHELTER IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA THAT SPECIALIZES IN ADDRESSING THE NEEDS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SURVIVORS IN THE API COMMUNITY. SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC OR SEXUAL VIOLENCE AND THEIR CHILDREN STAY IN CPAF'S SAFE AND CONFIDENTIAL SHELTER FACILITY FOR UP TO SIX MONTHS WHILE THEY MOVE FROM CRISIS TO SAFETY AND HEALING. SIXTY SURVIVORS AND THEIR CHILDREN RECEIVED 4,443 BED NIGHTS, AS WELL AS COMPREHENSIVE CASE MANAGEMENT, INCLUDING CRISIS INTERVENTION COUNSELING, FINANCIAL LITERACY EDUCATION, AND ASSISTANCE WITH LOCATING PERMANENT OR TRANSITIONAL HOUSING.

SHELTER PROGRAMS TRANSITIONAL HOUSING:CPAF OPERATES TWO TRANSITIONAL SHELTERS IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY. ADVOCATES PROVIDE COUNSELING, CASE MANAGEMENT, PARENTING CLASSES, LIFE-SKILLS CLASSES, AS WELL AS LINK SURVIVORS TO PERMANENT AFFORDABLE HOUSING OPTIONS AND JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE PERIOD OF 12 -24 MONTHS. CHILDREN ARE PROVIDED WITH COUNSELING, ACADEMIC AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES AIMED AT ENHANCING PROTECTIVE FACTORS AND REDUCING RISK FACTORS. FORTY-SIX SURVIVORS AND CHILDREN RECEIVED THESE SERVICES. MORE THAN 90% OF TRANSITIONAL PROGRAM GRADUATES FOUND SAFE AND PERMANENT HOUSING, AND MORE THAN 80% OF TRANSITIONAL PROGRAM GRADUATES INCREASED THEIR INCOME UPON EXIT.
