Organizations Filed Purposes:
To bring together people with a mutual interest in the important history and historical role of Chinese and Chinese Americans in Southern California; To pursue, preserve and communicate knowledge of this history; and To promote the heritage of the Chinese and Chinese American community in support of a better appreciation of our rich, multi-cultural society of the United States.
NARA Project: Digitalization of Chinese Exclusion Act Case Files - The National Archives in Perris, California [NARA] houses the Chinese Exclusion Act case files. The Organization is working with NARA and students from University of California - Riverside to digitize these documents and make them available to the public remotely rather than to physically visting NARA. The Society provided the funding for the students trained by NARA to digitize he case files with a $25,000 grant from the Robert Leong Loving Trust until the COVID-19 shut down access to the NARA facilities.To continue the digitization of the Chinese Exclusion Act case files, the Organization provided a $13,000 Grant to NARA so that it could purchase a scanner to allow its staff to process the case files. The digitization of the case files began on November 1, 2019 and is expected to continue until the process has been completed or until the funds have been spent. This is expected to be in 2021.
Digital Library and Archives: The Organization's Archives and Collections is in the process of converting into a digital format and a Multi-Media Digital Library to allow greater access of the material to educators, historical researchers as well as the general public remotely from the Organization's website as well in on site.
Tyrus Wong Online Exhibition: An online exhibition of the life and works of renowned Chinese American artist Tyrus Wong is being prepared with expectation of a May 2021 opening.
