THE BUILDING IS A CENTERPIECE IN THE AREA TO EDUCATE AND TRAIN RESIDENTS, THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND GENERAL PUBLIC IN THE PROCESSES OF COOPERATIVE DEVELOPMENT OF ALL KINDS, AND PARTICULARLY ECOLOGICAL HOUSING CONVERSION TO PERMANENT AFFORDABILITY AND SUSTAINABLE COOPERATIVE URBAN LIVING. IN ADDITION TO HOUSEHOLDS IN THE BUILDING, APPROXIMATELY 20,000 OTHERS HAVE BENEFITED FROM EDUCATION IN HOW TO COOPERATIVELY AND SUSTAINABLY MAINTAIN AND MANAGE NEIGHBORHOOD PROPERTY.A SECOND EIGHT UNIT APARTMENT BUILDING, PURCHASED IN JANUARY, 1999, EXPANDS THE PROGRAM. ON JULY 5, 2012 THESE BUILDINGS WERE SOLD TO URBAN SOIL/TIERRA URBANA, A CALIFORNIAPUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION. URBAN SOIL/TIERRA URBANA RECEIVED IRS 501(C)3 TAX EXEMPTSTATUS IN SEPTEMBER 2014. THE LAND ON WHICH THE BUILDINGS SIT WAS DONTATED TO BEVERLY VERMONT COMMUNITY LAND TRUST, A 501(C)3 ORGANIZATION.In addition to households in the buildings and neighborhood, more than 150,000 people have been exposed to and/or directly benefitted from education and training in how to cooperatively and sustainably maintain and manage neighborhood property and practice more sustainable urban living patterns.CRSP closed escrow on a third apartment building at 140 Bimini in 2011. The buildinghas FIVE units. CRSP WAS a joint 50-50 owner with BVCLT, a 501(c)3 organization hosemission is to preserve and provide long-term resident-controlled and affordable housing. CRSP provided the funds to acquire this property in 2012, and sold its unappreciated financial ownership stake to BVCLT in October 2016 when BVCLT was able to get a mortgage on the property. As existing and/or new low-to-moderate income tenants become qualified buyers CRSP and BVCLT are committed to keeping the property permanently affordable for low-to-moderate income residents consistent with their mutual public interest purposes. The property at 140 Bimini was transferred to BVCLT in October 2016 in a transactionthat included the purchase of a parcel at 3554/3560 West First Street and theextinguishment of prior CRSP debt incurred by BVCLT in July 2012. This transactionresulted in an additional non-cash contribution by CRSP to BVCLT, representing thedifference between the purchase price and CRSP's basis in the property (purchaseprice, improvements, depreciation recapture, loan balance, and deferred interestpayable to CRSP at the time of the transaction).CRSP anticipates that the property at 3554/3560 West First Street will be placed inservice sometime in 2020.

LAEV-FCCIn February 2016, CRSP began mentoring and providing a fiscal umbrella to an emerging worker cooperative called LAEV Family Child Care (LAEV-FCC), which is managed collectively by skilled caregivers and licensed to provide care for a maximum of eight children at any given time. The mission of this child care program is to provide affordable child care to families while offering living wages and a democratic workplace for its caregivers; it is based in the Los Angeles Eco-Village neighborhood where CRSP is located.

Food Lobby - Small food buying cooperative for low income households was started as a demonstration education and training activity for neighborhood groups who want to form similar cooperatives.
