PREPARING THE CHILDREN OF WATTS-WILLOWBROOK, COMPTON, AND SOUTH LOS ANGELES TO SUCCEED AND THEREBY STRENGTHEN OUR COMMUNITY'S FUTURE
CALWORKS STAGE 1,2,3 CAPP/THE SUBSIDY FOR CHILD CARE PROGRAM STRIVES TO ASSIST PARENTS OF NEWBORN BABIES UP TO CHILDREN AGE 18 OR OLDER SECURE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO PAY FOR CHILD CARE. PARENTS SELECT THEIR CHILD CARE PROVIDER FROM A LIST OF QUALIFIED HIGH-QUALITY LICENSED CHILD CARE CENTERS AND FAMILY CHILD CARE HOMES, UNLICENSED FAMILY CARE-TAKERS WHO CLEARED BACKGROUND CHECKS. THE SUBSIDY FOR CHILD CARE PROGRAM SUPPORTS THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY WORKFORCE, ALLOWING FAMILIES TO SECURE AND MAINTAIN GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT WHILE PROVIDING STABLE CHILD CARE SERVICES FOR FAMILIES. THE PROGRAM ADMINISTERED APPROXIMATELY $1.5MM IN MONTHLY PROVIDER PAYMENTS TO OVER 1,588 CHILD CARE PROVIDERS. COMBINED, THESE PROGRAMS SERVED OVER 4,031 CHILDREN IN 2,082 FAMILIES.
GENERAL CHILD CARE/ENCOURAGING YOUNG MINDSDREW CDC'S PRESCHOOL, EARLY HEAD START, AND EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES WORK CONGRUENTLY TO PROVIDE THE OPTIMAL RESOURCES TO THE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES WE SERVE. OUR EARLY EDUCATION PROGRAM ENSURES CHILDREN ARE READY FOR KINDERGARTEN AND EQUIPPED WITH THE NECESSARY FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES. THE EARLY EDUCATION PROGRAM PROVIDES A COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR CHILDREN 18 MONTHS TO 5 YEARS OLD AT LOW-TO NO-COSTS FOR INCOME-ELIGIBLE FAMILIES, AND HAS A PROVEN TRACK RECORD OF IMPROVING CHILDREN'S EDUCATIONAL TRAJECTORY AND EMPLOYABILITY.RESEARCH SHOWS THAT HIGH-QUALITY EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION HELPS PREPARE YOUNG CHILDREN TO SUCCEEDED IN SCHOOL AND TO BECOME CONTRIBUTING CITIZENS. EARLY EDUCATION BENEFITS CHILDREN OF ALL SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS AND HAS FAR REACHING IMPLICATIONS FOR SOCIETY AT LARGE, INCLUDING WELL DOCUMENTED ECONOMIC BENEFITS. OUR EARLY EDUCATION PROGRAM SETS THE STAGE FOR LIFELONG LEARNING BY ENSURING HIGH QUALITY, ENHANCES AND SUPPORTIVE CHILD DEVELOPMENT SERVICES ARE CULTURALLY AND LINGUISTICALLY SENSITIVE, UTILIZED BEST PRACTICES AND IS CHILD/FAMILY FOCUSED. THE PROGRAM HAS THE CAPACITY TO SERVE 398 CHILDREN AT OUR SIX CHILD CARE CENTERS LOCATED IN SOUTH LOS ANGELES AND COMPTON. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, THE PROGRAM PROVIDED SERVICES TO OVER 675 CHILDREN. THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF THE FAMILIES REFLECTS THE COMMUNITY BEING LOW INCOME AFRICAN AMERICAN AND LATINO FAMILIES WHO ARE ELIGIBLE FOR SERVICES. CHILDREN SERVED RANGE IN AGE FROM 18 MONTHS TO FIVE YEARS OLD. DREW CDC'S EARLY EDUCATION PROGRAM IS BASED ON THE PRINCIPLES OF INCLUSION, HEALTHY NUTRITION, AND POSITIVE TEACHER, CHILD, AND FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS. THESE PRINCIPLES ARE EMBEDDED IN ALL THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES OF THE CURRICULA WHICH IS CENTERED ON POSITIVE INTERACTIONS WITH ADULTS, SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL COMPETENCE, CONSTRUCTIVE-INTENTIONAL IN LEARNING.
MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM/ENSURING EMOTIONAL WELLBEING THE MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM ENSURES THE EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING OF CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES BY PROVIDING WEEKLY INDIVIDUAL, FAMILY OR GROUP THERAPEUTIC MEETINGS. THESE OUTPATIENT SERVICES OCCUR IN THE CHILD'S HOME, CHILD'S SCHOOL OR IN THE CLINICIAN'S OFFICE. DREW CDC'S MENTAL HEALTH TEAM CONSIST OF BOTH LICENSED CLINICIANS AND UNLICENSED CLINICIANS. ADDITIONAL TEAM MEMBERS INCLUDE A CASE MANAGER, PSYCHIATRIST, AND PSYCHOLOGIST, WHICH COLLABORATE ON A REGULAR BASIS. A VARIETY OF MENTAL HEALTH SYMPTOMS ARE ADDRESSED DURING THE THERAPEUTIC PROCESS WHICH INCLUDES DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, ADHD RELATED, PLUS MANY MORE. THE THERAPIST UTILIZES TRAUMA INFORMED APPROACHES TO TREATMENT. MANY OF THESE CHILDREN ARE IN THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM AND ARE IN THE PROCESS OF REUNIFYING WITH THEIR CAREGIVERS. DREW CDC OUTPATIENT SERVICES PROVIDES A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY TEAM APPROACH WHICH IS FAMILY FOCUSED, STRENGTH BASED, AND NEEDS DRIVEN THAT IS CULTURALLY COMPETENT. INDIVIDUAL, FAMILY AND GROUP THERAPY IS PROVIDED WHICH IS SUPERVISED BY LICENSED CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKERS AND LICENSED MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST. THERAPIST ADDRESS EMOTIONAL, AND BEHAVIORAL CHALLENGES BY DEVELOPING COLLABORATIVELY DEVELOPED TREATMENT GOALS TO REDUCE OR ELIMINATE SYMPTOMS. THE THERAPEUTIC OUTPATIENT SERVICES CAN EITHER OCCUR IN THE CLIENT'S HOME, SCHOOL OR THE CLINICIANS HOME. DREW CDC ALSO PROVIDES CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES, PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS. THESE PROGRAMS SERVED OVER 644 CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN FY 18-19.
