Organizations Filed Purposes:
EDLOC IS A NONPROFIT MEMBERSHIP ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO ELEVATING THE LEADERSHIP, VOICES AND INFLUENCE OF PEOPLE OF COLOR IN EDUCATION AND TO LEADING MORE INCLUSIVE EFFORTS TO IMPROVE EDUCATION. EDLOC'S MISSION IS TO BREAK THROUGH THE POLARIZING DIVIDES THAT HAVE CONSUMED EFFORTS TO IMPROVE PUBLIC EDUCATION.

NETWORK CONVENINGS:EDLOC HOSTS A SERIES OF CONVENINGS TO HELP IDENTIFY, CULTIVATE AND BUILD THE CAPACITY OF OUR MEMBERS. OUR NATIONAL CONVENINGS HAVE PROVIDED OPPORTUNITIES TO BUILD OUR MEMBERS' KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE AROUND THE POLICY PLATFORM AND OTHER OTHER TOPICS. IMPORTANTLY, THE NATIONAL CONVENING HAS SERVED TO GROW AND CONNECT THE MEMBERSHIP, DEVELOP OUR THIRD WAY VALUES, BUILD SKILLS, AND ALIGN ON OUR GOALS AND PRIORITIES. OUR CONVENINGS, WITH OVER 380 PARTICIPANTS IN 2019, HAVE ALSO FILLED A GAP IN THE FIELD TO NEWORK AND PROVIDE SUPPORT TO VALUES-ALIGNED, DIVERSE LEADERS IN EDUCATION AND RELATED FIELDS. OUR AFFINITY CONVENINGS HELP OUR MEMBERS CONNNECT WITH MEMBERS WHO ARE IN SIMILAR ROLES TO CONNECT AND COLLABORATE ON SHARED CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES. THROUGH OUR REGIONAL NETWORKS, MEMBERS CONVENE TO STRATEGIZE AROUND HOW TO ADVANCE POLICIES CRITICAL TO PROTECTING AND SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITIES AND BUILD RELATIONSHIPS TO CREATE STRONGER BLACK-LATINO COALITIONS.
BOULDER FUND:THE BOULDER FUND PROVIDES FINANCIAL AND NON-FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO MEMBERS LEADING ENTREPRENEURIAL VENTURES OR INNOVATIONS AND WORKING TO ADVANCE ITS THIRD WAY VALUES AND POLICY PRIORITIES. THE BOULDER FUND IS INTEGRAL TO EDLOC'S STRATEGY OF ADVANCING LEADERS OF COLOR ALIGNED TO OUR VALUES AS A TRANSFORMATIVE FORCE IN THE LIVES OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES OF COLOR. IN 2019, THROUGH A COMPETITIVE GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS, EDLOC MADE $600,000 IN GRANTS (EACH $100,000) TO EDLOC MEMBERS WHO ARE SPEARHEADING OR EXPANDING INNOVATIONS ALIGNED WITH EDLOC'S VALUES AND POLICY PLATFORM AND SUPPORTED RECIPEINTS THROUGH COACHING, ADVISEMENT, AND A COMMUNITY OF ENTREPRENUERS. THE 2019 RECIPIENTS LEAD ORGANIZATIONS GEARED TOWARD PROVIDING BLACK, LATINO, AND LOW-INCOME STUDENTS AND FAMILIES OUTSTANDING EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES.
POLICY:OUR POLICY WORK FOCUSES ON ALIGNING OUR MEMBERS AND THE FIELD TO EDLOC'S VALUES AND ADVANCE THE POLICIES AND PRACTICES THAT EMBODY THOSE VALUES. EDLOC FOCUSES ON MAINTAINING REGIONAL NETWORKS IN THE FOLLOWING REGIONS: BAY AREA, BOSTON, CHICAGO, DENVER, HOUSTON, LOS ANGELES, MEMPHIS, NEW ORLEANS, NEW YORK CITY, AND WASHINGTON, D.C. EDLOC ALIGNS THIS CRITICAL REGIONAL WORK WITH OUR LEADERSHIP WORK AS EDLOC SUPPORTS MEMBERS TO BE A POWERFUL VOICE OF LEADERS OF COLOR WHO CAN INFLUENCE LOCAL POLICIES AND PRACTICES. EDLOC BUILDS MEMBER-CAPACITY TO AFFECT POLICY THROUGH RESEARCH ON BEST PRACTICES, COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT, AND CONNECTION TO MEMBERS WHO HAVE AFFECTED POLICY CHANGE IN RELEVANT AREAS. EDLOC AMPLIFIES ITS LEADERS, POLICIES, AND VALUES THROUGH IT'S COMMUNCATIONS, INCLUDING BLOGS, SOCIAL MEDIA, AND OTHER MEDIA OUTLETS.
